78 Precision Antigua finish on the bay

Not of any interest to me at that price, but the finish, I think it's called Antigua, is unusual.
Gotta be even more so in a lefty. Nice maple neck too. If it had a matching Antigua finish on the headstock I'd be tempted. I think that look is cool but I know a lot of people hate it. Was there anything else unique about the Antigua line or is it just the color scheme?

There's nothing unique about the antigua basses other than the rare finish. I personally hate the look of antigua unless it's on the grayer side (as it appears on this bass), since more often than not they have a putrid yellowish green cast to them.

What are those two round finish holes just above the bridge cover? They don't look like natural finish wear, but as if something was once mounted there.

$1200 for a lefty antigua is actually a steal IF you can manage a successful transaction with a seller that has no history.

$1200 is a good price. There's another Antigua P that's in better shape that's been on the bay several times, but the seller started off asking $5k for it, and has slowly dropped his BIN to the mid-$3k range. I don't think he's sold it.



Anyway, Warmoth can make you an Antigua guard, and you could have those holes fixed, and end up with less than $1500 in it. As for what caused those holes, my guess is someone moved the thumbrest and put the screws in without pre-drilling.

Actually I had a black '78 with that same "enhancement" in that same location (thumb rest). "Finish holes" is an understatement - "craters" are more appropriate. The old poly finish came off like armor plating.

Well guys... I just won this bass. Unfortunately this means I will have to sell my 2008 American Std Precision as money is a huge issue for me right now. I will post pics, etc to let you all have first crack at it if anyone is interested. I will do this after I have received the '78. Cheers

Congratulations on the new bass Matt.

I just commented this morning in another thread on how impressed I am with the new Fender AS P-bass. If anyone is looking for a new P it's well worth checking out. How's the weight of yours?

dunno, but I'll weigh and give all details. I like boat anchors, and this one feels light to me. without a scale I'd say 8-9 lbs. and it's a rockin bass.

I had a heavy '75 and loved it. 11+ lbs. My '74 (see avatar) is about 10lbs.

Well Matt, you got that bass for a steal! A great price for a '78 P period, let alone an antigua finish. If I were you I'd flip it.
