Oh my

Looks like a 4HH IS available.

This is very bad for me.

I don't believe it. Yet.
I'm thinking Leftyfretz just flipped the picture and the decals, and have been misinformed. The EBMM website doesn't provide any new information either, they just state lefties are available but they don't state what configurations are available to lefties. IIRC Ernie Ball doesn't make preamps for dual pickup models for lefties.

I recall that the MM website used to qualify that lefty was available in H only. It no longer has that qualifier. I emailed MM for clarification.

My in-laws live near a Guitar Center, and sometimes when we visit I sneak away to try out some of their offerings, including an HH. I generally prefer passive basses, but I cannot get a bad sound out of that thing, and the neck fits me like a glove. Want want want want want.

Want.

The reply:

Tim

Thanks for playing Music Man! We understand your confusion. The left handed bass is only available as a single H.

Cheers,

S'okay. Better for my wallet.

Aren't preamps all the same for lefty/righty?

No, in an EBMM they're a shaped circuit board matching the curve and length of the control cavity so they aren't reversible.

What a desappointment! It is the only bass I would actually be interested in buying those days.

Is it the same preamp? Isn't the Bongo 18v, Stingray 9v? Or did you swap out the preamp in your Bongo?

I blame Henry Juszkiewicz/Gibson Guitars.

Original 18v. 4 band active EQ (stacked bass/treble, stacked low mid/high mid). I guess they're different preamps.

They are, but like the Stingray preamp they're a prefab drop-in unit. But I guess they're modular? They consist of three separate PCB's, two directly mounted to the pots and a separate one.
