Showing off doesn't have anything to do with the amount of strings. Cool bass though.

Adirondack has had this bass listed for years.

Purdy bass. I like messing around on a six string but I don't think I could play one in a band effectively.

I like playing chords on the high strings on a 6 so it inclines me to play quite different than on a 4 string.

I'm not much of an "extended range" player either, preferring my trusty Hipshot detuners when I need to go lower, but I do prefer a 6 string over a 5 because I'm also a guitarist and I find it easier to adapt to. You can experiment with different tunings and find some interesting fun patterns and chords/arpeggios. I typically detune my high C to a B to allow for easier guitar-like bar chords, and I'll detune my G to F# as well on occasion. If you're a long time 4 string player, I find it's easy to get used to if you basically ignore the low B string altogether until you need it.

I like four strings and will probably stick with just that for the foreseeable future. But someday I would like to tune a bass to BEAD.

I've never understood the hang-ups with switching to more strings. Once you get over the physical part of the adjustment (neck width, string skipping, etc), ERB's are actually EASIER to play, IMO.

If you really think about it, it should be much harder for a 6-string player to play a 4-string than vise-versa, since you're basically reducing your options within a single position and have to jump around a lot more to find what you need with a 4 as opposed to a 6.

I still play 4-string a lot at home, but almost never when I gig... it just feels limiting to me not to drop an occasional bomb when I want to.

I have a theory about that. You actually need to play an instrument in order to get acclimated to it.

Admittedly, I don't play my 6 string enough. It's a once in a while niche instrument for me, though I would love to incorporate it into my playing more often. Gotta find the time somehow. I think the more I play mine, however, the more I'm thinking I would prefer one with narrower string spacing/slimmer neck. It does require a different approach, IMO, given the width, which requires more of a floating thumb technique, more muting technique, etc. Any suggestions?
