The Strangers Videos

Post by fivebass52 »

We get together from time to time to play the classic hits...

More as time goes by... these were shot at a benefit my good musicians/friends threw for me after thieves broke into my van and stole my Micheal Kelly bass, GKMB150 combo, PA head and speakers, etc. At the end of the night, the audience, made up of said musicians, friends, and guests, raised more than $1400 to replace my missing items. Now that's some great people!

You just made my day, AzWhoFan! Must be the lighting that makes us all look younger... I'm the oldest at 57, and the youngest is 49 or 50, (can't remember at the moment). And all of the songs I'll be posting are songs I grew up with too. Of course, I've been growing up with all of the hits since 1952!

hahahahaha ... they say the eyes are the first things to go

The sound quality sounds better on Bad Luck than the other 2 posts. Anything different about this clip? Maybe you turned down your stage volume?

Bad Luck and Not Fade Away were recorded on a different night than Dear Prudence. Dear Prudence was also recorded from the back of the room. the other two were recorded not far behind the pole you see in the video.

You'll notice that on Dear Prudence there is a full crowd in the room, and was recorded during my Benefit. For that gig I was using my Walter Wood head through an Accu Groove Tri112 cab. For the other two songs I was using the 410 cab you see in the video. I think I was using a small Phil Jones head that I wasn't too happy with. It recorded better than it sounded...

Condenser mikes sometimes get compressed when hit by full SPL's, and it's interesting that we started off with Not Fade Away, and went right into Bad Luck, so you would think they would be the same levels...

I'll be posting more videos as the guitar player posts them to youtube, so I'll be curious to see how the others stack up sound wise, especially when we get to the Who ( Baba O'Reilly, Pinball Wizard, Won't Get Fulled Again)Trilogy!

Being a huge Who fan, I'm really looking forward to those!!

What gear did you use to record the clips?

The lead guitar player recorded the video and audio on a Sony HD SR11 60 gig camcorder. Considering the camera sells for $1000or more, it better come out good!

A gig camcorder ... what a concept!!! Does it allow you to plug in external mics?

I know it's capable of it, although I have not seen the camcorder close-up.
