One caveat: You've got to get yourself (or a friend or loved one) to Japan to get 'em! :x

FYI, I looked into these further and also got an estimate from a 3rd party Japan escrow shipping service. it is possible to get them this way, but alas the dollar is pretty weak over there now. It would cost $1450 total for the bass including shipping, customs fees, and 3rd party fees. The bass itself is about $1100 US, so for $350 more you get it door to door. Pretty pricey for an MIJ bass, especially when you consider the righties are available for $799 US, but it's doubtful these will ever be offered here. I guess I'll wait until the dollar gets stronger, if that ever happens.

WOW!

That CAR really does it for me!!

Unfortunately, at that price I'm not interested. If it were in the $750-$800 range then yes.

the linked image must be a jpg, gif, etc ...

once you have this, add this to the prefix [img]

paste the link here with no spaces between it and the link, and then add this suffix without and spaces at the end of the link

[/img]

make sense?

if not, find somebody post that has embedded images and click the "Quote" icon. the format for the linked image should become instantly recognizable

all the best,

R

Yep - that is the deal -i checked in as well with a drummer friend who is gigging and living over there (or was it the 22 year old japanese girlfriend...?) anyway, $1100 to buy it (Tokyo) and about $300 to ship it - I wonder if 3/4 of us went in, we could lower the shipping?...

Damn, I'd like one of them. Interestingly, when I checked out the white one, 3 of the pics were of a lefty white Aerodyne Jazz....http://www.taniguchi-gakki.com/catalog/ ... ts_id=1369

I was navigating the website with my rudimentary understanding of Japanese (read: NONE!) and I found that they sell the Tokai lefty Thunderbirds, along with some other kinds of basses people here might be interested in...I saw some lefty Jackson basses (not sure if anyone here likes Jacksons, I LOVE their guitars though), which I have NEVER ever seen anywhere. That site is pretty cool and if people were to go in on a bigger order and try to lower the shipping (like someone earlier suggested), I might be tempted to pick up a lefty Black Tokai T-bird...any thoughts? I have been reading on some peoples "reviews" of Tokai instruments and some people are saying they are just as good as their US built counterparts, except one review mentioned that the parts were historically innaccurate...I even think the T-birds are neck-thru! Sweet!
