Playing around in the shop can be fun!

I've always wanted a P-Bass Deluxe styled bass and since Fender doesn't offer a model like this to us lefties, I thought I'd just put one together using a special order Warmoth alder P-body and a lefty rosewood jazz neck (MIM) from Fender. The EMG-X series active pickups were already in my practice bass...an old "Austin" brand basswood P-Bass. The tuners are long stem Fender vintage, I think they also use those on a Squire model or two. I used a reddish brown water based wood dye from Transfast and a couple of cans of nitro from ReRanch, a few coats of vintage tint around the edges and 5-6 coats of clear to finish the whole thing off. The Gotoh 201 came from Warmoth and I converted it to a "string thru the body" style bridge.

I love the sound and veratility of this bass guitar. Nah, it'll never get the P-Bass sound of a 60's passive model but it comes so danged close it's not even funny. What I'm really in love with is the burpy, active sound that the EMG-JX pickup has in the 70's location on the body. While these pickups were in the Austin P-Bass copy, I routed the J-Bass pickup location a bit closer to the bridge like the old Fender 70's models had. I so glad some of the squatty, burpy sound transfered over to this new bass.

Anyhoo, I thought you guys might enjoy a gander at it.

Thanks for checking in,
Glenn in Texas
