Sadowsky Vintage J5

Up for sale is my Sadowsky Vintage J5. The bass is less than a year old (delivered August 2013). It's pretty much in brand new condition-only played on studio sessions. The body is Alder and finished in Dakota red with a matching headstock. The tuners are the current aluminum tuners that Roger is using on all of his new basses. The fingerboard is Amazon Rosewood. It has the standard Sadowsky Vintage tone controls. The bass weighs approx 9 lbs.
Included is a Sadowsky portabag that came with the bass when I purchased it.
Due to the options and age of the instrument, I'm asking $4700.00 + all shipping fees for it.
Serious inquiries only please.

Holy cow! Dakota red, same color as my first lefty bass, a used 64 P that I paid $125. for in 1966. Very nice. Why are you selling it so soon , if you don't mind me asking?

Looking for (and hopefully finding!) an early to mid 60's P bass.

That's a nice Jazz bass. LOVE that finish too. Glad I lost my GAS or I would be in trouble.

That's gonna be tough but not impossible. I've contacted the usual suspects such as George Gruhn, Norm Harris, Matt Umanov and come up empty. You may have a better chance in the EU but with the exchange rate the cost will probably be considerably more. Good luck in your search. Keep us posted.

Been going the same route as well and you're
right- very tough going. I'm thinking any type of trade deal probably won't happen.
Best would be to sell and put the cash towards one- which again may be
a futile endeavor seeing as the rarity of early to mid
60's lefty P basses. May just hold onto the Sadowsky after all.

I've probably told this story many times, but I once got to play a lefty '65, all-original P-Bass at the Guitar Center in Hollywood. This was maybe 10 years ago and they were asking $4500 or $5K for it. It was delicious, though. I guess the closest thing to it would be to get a Masterbuilt Custom Shop. . . I don't recall ever seeing anything earlier than a '69 in quite a few years. . .
But, good luck. There have to be a few out there.

$20,000 is not something I will (or can) spend on a bass.
Regardless if how amazing it is!

Well gents, I'm gonna shut this one down and hold onto to it. It really is a worthy instrument. One that proves itself time and time again.
I did a session with it today and after listening to the playback, I really can't let it go.
I do apologize for being a bit hasty in listing it for sale here and I hope I did'nt disappoint any interested parties. Too good to part with.

I'm adding a note about this bass just for the benefit of anyone in this board who's interested in it.

First of all it has been repaired and refinished : the seller didn't mention this. He was dumb enough to not see that his trusty luthier published the photoset of the repairing/refinishing on his facebook page (if you ask me i'll give you the link).

Second : this bass has a unclear story, i scored it on an ebay only-german auction some years ago. The bass was unsold, so i contacted the seller to see if we could arrange something. I asked for more photos of the cavities ecc ... to make a long story short the seller didn't wanted to give me detailed hires photos. He continued to tell me that if i wanted the bass i should have come to his house to see it and pick up in person. Since the seller lived a long way from me, i gave up.

Anyway at that time the bass was Black (clearly refinished), with a strange Black (?) nut. All of the rest looked original, but as i said the seller didn't provided me enough photos.

I'm not saying that the bass is a scam, but for sure it's not in its original shape. I'm just warning people who's interested in it.

Ok. Well after considering it for awhile, I've decided to put this back on the "for sale" list. Price has dropped to $3100 plus shipping (to wherever that may be)
I'll also consider trades, but they would need to be a 5 of equal worth/quality or older Fender 4 stringers.

Ouch! It took a ding so I'm lowering the price to anyone interested. $2800 plus shipping gets it.
