Jazz with a P neck, has it been done?

Post by ADSR »

My good experience with the Hot Rod P leads me to believe I might like to own a Jazz bass, but I hate those narrow J necks.

J with a P neck. Have they ever made one? Even if they did, I suppose the chances of finding a lefty.....

No, I don't think so, and I'm surprised. Personally, I love the J neck.

I want a P body with a J neck. Like, now.

Hey, if you want, we could both get what we want and have some fun in the process. Together, we buy a P and a J (MIA preferred for me, mostly for the fretwork) and switch the necks. What do you think?

done as an officially released Fender instrument? I can't say for sure

it's easily done by swapping an aftermarket neck like USACG/Warmoth, via a custom build instrument, or as bbl notes above

all the best,

Also, if anyone wants to put a P neck on their Jazz, I have a 1996 MIA P neck for sale or trade.

I put a P neck of unknown origin on a J body and it sounded great, fit fine. Not a perfect pocket fit like the original, but scale, intonation, all the stuff that matters, was fine. Just a small gap where the aftermarket neck was more squared at the end than the pocket.
