Parts P bass for sale cheap!

Post by sgilder »

I bought this a few months ago here and it scratched my itch for a bass, but I need to raise some funds for a new guitar. Its a pretty sweet bass, better than anything you'll get from the name brands for the price, especially as a lefty. Here are the specs: Allparts body, Musikraft neck. Nitro finish on both. Vintage style Fender tuners, vintage style bridge, as well as bridge and pickup covers. Hipshot detuner on the E string. Pickup is a Joe Barden P-style. Sounds great. The set up work (fret dressing, strobing...etc) and assembly was professionally done by Ed Beaver in Nashville. The whole thing feels and sounds like a nice, worn in instrument. Nice and comfy, just like an old P bass should be. Sounds awesome with flats, sounds great with rounds (currently sporting D'addario XL nickel wound rounds). It's in pretty good shape, there are some fine scratches in the nitro finish, and there's some finish chipping at the neck pocket. There is a seventies style Fender logo on the headstock, but this is NOT a Fender. It is a very nice parts bass. I'm asking $500 or best offer shipping included in the US. I'll ship it in a double gig bag. I've got a set of Fodera nickel strings I can throw in as well.
I'm serious about offers. I need to sell this to finish paying off my new guitar, so I'm motivated to sell. It's a great bass made with top quality parts and professionally assembled and setup, for about what you'd pay for a mexican Fender P bass, IF Fender made MIM Lefty P-basses, which they don't!

Chiming in to say I looked at this bass earlier this year and was impressed by the build. I did not play the bass as I was not looking for a P at the time; I was mainly interested in the MK neck as I had never seen one. The feel/finish is superb if you want that smooth, worn-in feel. The nitro work overall (body & neck) simply gives it that vibe I like. And it's not just a visual vibe but tactile one. And of course just a personal preference thing not necessarily better like mayo vs. mustard blah blah...

Thanks for the kind words. I agree, it's got a great feel to it. I'm amazed Fender doesn't really do anything like this in lefty at a reasonable price point.

When I had this bass done for me, I was very specific as to what I wanted sound and feel wise, but aesthetics as well. Ed Beaver takes care of all of my basses as well as any custom builds, set ups..etc. He primarily did all of the set up work, fret dressing/leveling, electronics..etc on this particular bass. Glad you're happy with it. Even if it was for a little while. Good luck with the sale.

Is tonally the J.B. pickup a "vintage style" one (like SD SPB1) or an "aggressive output" one (like Di Marzios) ?

Sounds vintage to me. Very versatile (for a P-bass)--fits in a lot of different settings. Put flats on this thing and it sounds like perfection!

Thanks! My very first bass was a 1974 P-Bass, and I've got to tell ya, I was under-whelmed by it... heavy, neck dive, non-descript tone... although if I still owned it, I'd have a "classic tone-monster" worth two-grand!

I'm hoping this bass will be what most P-Basses are supposed to be, especially in the tone department.... Can't wait to "wring it out!" By the way, this is bass #20, so it's time to "thin the herd".... a term that I think is over done! :D

The bass came in the mail today, and was still in tune! Feels good, although I'll probably lower the action just a bit... played it through my little Roland Cube Amp, and the g-string sounds great with no dead spots. Drop-D tuner works well. and now I can fool people into thinking I have a Fender.... ;) Will have to play it through my regular amp/cab set-up to get the full sound effect, but I like it so far....

One thing though sgilder, where's my Fodera strings? Just kidding of course... thanks again, and I always like having double-gig bags... I have three of them now!

Aloha.... Ian

Thought I'd update my post... I played this at a gig last night with my band, it was comfortable the minute I started playing it! I haven't enjoyed playing a 4-string in years, but I had a great time with this bass last night! Sounded great, neck seems to be a little wider than a stock jazz-bass neck, but not as chunky as a P, so it was easy to play... Very happy I bought this bass! OK, that's enough exclamation points! :D
