Feeler: Rob Allen MB-2

Post by Lefty007 »

Some of you remember this bass. It was for sale recently at Talkbass and eBay. It didn't sell then, but I got it directly from the owner a few days later. Please see Talkbass listing here:

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f126/rob- ... us-910209/

This bass is all that everybody says and more. Haven't had much time to play it, but it's still in pristine condition. Plays effortlessly, with nice low action for tons of mwah, and believe it or not, it's easier to play in tune than any other fretless I have had before (and I've had quite a few). Maybe the tapewound strings contribute to that.

Not trying to make money here, just recouping my investment. I got $1700 in it. Will do $1800 shipped and Paypaled (which is about $100 cost) within continental USA. International fellows please PM me for a shipping quote. Comes with the same gig bag as listed before. Sorry for being lazy and not taking my own pictures, but life is hectic right now.

Any question don't hesitate to contact me. These basses cost like $10,000 new, seriously, plus a 15-year wait. Come get this cheap. And it will make you sound, look, play and fell super sexy. Do a nice, long and slow slide from D to G, or whatever, on the G string and watch all the girls come and rub against you.

Killer bass! Is the color of the top more like the set set of pics in the post (darker), or more like the rest of the pics?

I still dig my Mouse 30 even tho it hasn't seen much love this past year.

Normally it's darker than what you see in the pictures - those pics were all taken with plenty of light, it seems.

Ah, YOU  got it Carlos. Ha!

I back up everything he says here but its better than what you see. I have pics of it (somewhere). I went to a talkbass members house to demo this bass. Its really a good one. The walnut neck is very cool and unique. The top... SOOO much nicer in person.

Great acoustic bass amplified and non amplified. One of the best builders too. I gassed for months on it myself and he was local.

Good luck!!!

It's 34" scale. It does feel like 32", though, because the bridge is pushed all the way to the end of the body and the upper horn is extra long - oh, my. . .

So if any of you is 5-feet tall and have short arms, this is it. If you are 400 lb and are taller than 6 feet, this might look a bit ridiculous on you.

The bass also tastes really good, like chocolate and tobacco, with a hint of brown sugar - and even truffles at the end.

Hey, I changed my mind, this bass is now $3800. You guys seem to be liking it too much. Make it $3900 and I'll include a strap in the deal.

I've been drooling over this Rob Allen for some time. I'm sure I'm not alone. Wow.

And watching this doesn't help:

My dears,

I've decided to put this back for sale. I made a small mistake in my original listing: I checked my Paypal and I paid $1800 plus shipping for this baby. I'd like to recoup that if possible.

I also got made a matching walnut thumbrest directly from Rob (nice guy!). This little precious piece of wood cost me $70! But hey, it's original and matches the top. Nothing but the best. I haven't installed it yet, so up to you where to put it. It's 5 inches long. If installed on the right spot, it'll give you both the familiar location of P or J pickups. I've been playing it without the rest, and it's fine that way too, but I thought it'd be more comfortable to have it. I will also include a container of Elmer's Wood Glue (now stronger formula) How coolz am I?

Anyhow, I'd like to get $1900 and I'll ship it free, Paypal included.

Holla at ya boy.

And I could hand-deliver it tomorrow! I'll be spending the night in Brooklyn tomorrow. But just teasing you. I'm flying Delta and they have a smallish plane assigned to my flight, so I'll probably have to gate-check whatever I bring. I wanted to bring my Sadowsky to go to the shop tomorrow and have Roger sign it, but I don't want to risk having to gate-check that bass. . . :?

I'm still planning on visiting the Sadowsky showroom tomorrow armed with spray paint and vandalize the whole place, and write on the walls, "Why no lefties for stock, Roger?" Or better yet, "Where's my lefty Metro?"

You can borrow the TRB (or one of the 4 strings) if at all useful. Will you be around these parts on Saturday?

Thanks, but I still need a bass for a festival we are playing around Ithaca. We are playing a block party in Brooklyn around 2:00 pm on Sat, and then we drive to Ithaca. . . Forecast says it's going to rain on Sat. . . :x But if you live close by, we'll be playing at the intersection of Grand St. and Bushwick Ave.
