78 Precision (Maybe)

Not sure if I want to do this yet. I'm thinking about a Rickenbacker, and I'm kind of lost as to what I'd charge for this bass. Has replacement 70s RI bridge, old DiMarzio pickup, Jeannie Pickguard (no additional holes drilled, this was an exact fit). I also put vintage style strap buttons back on it, and dowels had to be "implanted" to fix oversized holes for some type of straplocks that were on it. But that repair is invisible and solid as iron.

Due to the walnut color being rare, yet pretty reliced, I'm at a loss. Plays, looks, sounds incredible, roughly 9.5 LBS. Any ideas as to what this should go for? I'd like to get 1200-1300 shipped. But I dunno.

Discuss.

This is right in my wheelhouse. I like some road wear and some period-era mods (Dimarzios, bad-ass).

If you decide to sell, please give me a shot at janastas@aol.com

9.5lbs is not a bad weight for an otherwise boat anchor period in Fender's history. I think your asking price is reasonable too. Love the walnut finish/rosewood combo on these P basses too. Not easy to find rosewood Ps from this era.

Someone should snatch this up.

I really don't want to sell it unless I absolutely have to. I just bought that Rickenbacker, so I need to gauge how bad it's going to financially smack me.

Nice bass Matt! That's one of the nicest pieces of Walnut I've seen... don't recall seeing such a tight, and straight grain pattern such as this - impressive!

This is an ash body finished in walnut color (I believe the correct name is mocha), not actual walnut wood. . . Although Fender did make a walnut Precision Special in the early '80s. . . ;)

Thanks for the clarification Matt. Should have realized it wasn't Mahogany.... Mahogany doesn't really have grain. Still a nice piece of wood!

Hey guys I am bumping this thread to say that this bass is definitely up for sale. Asking $1350 shipped in the continental US.

The only difference now is that the DiMarzio has been replaced with a Seymour Duncan vintage style pickup and the wiring harness was trashed so it was also replaced. Sounded great before but now it sounds more like a Pbass.
I can provide more pix, just ask.

No case.

Thank god! I probably only had another 24 hours of fortitude to avoid buying this myself, and this definitely falls into the "wants" category and not the "needs" category.

Congratulations to whoever got this beauty!

I purchased this bass from Matt and I'm extremely pleased with it. It plays and sounds tremendous. I used it today on 2 sessions and on both dates, it sounded outstanding. It tracked extremely well and one of the engineers even commented on how good it sounded straight into the board with no tweaking. More importantly, the powers that be on the sessions were very pleased with the tone as well.
Thanks again Matt. Great bass-couldn't be happier with it.
