As promised in THIS THREAD, I recently acquired a new 5-string fretless (pics coming soon) and am simply not a good enough fretless player to justify having two... so someone is going to get lucky! :D

Condition: Almost mint... still has the plastic on the control panel cover!

Specs:
  • MODEL: L-2500 ($1850 MSRP)
  • FINISH: Black Burst Premier Finish (+$100 MSRP)
  • BODY: Ash (+$0 MSRP when choosing a Premier Finish)
  • NECK: Hard Rock Maple Quartersawn (+$100)
  • FINGERBOARD: Ebony Lined Fretless Board (+$200)
  • HEADSTOCK: Matching Headstock (+$150)
  • PICKUPS: Two G&L Magnetic Field Design Humbuckers
  • CONTROLS: See Below
  • BRIDGE: G&L Saddle Lock
  • TUNERS: G&L Ultralite Tuners w/ Aluminum Tapered String Posts
  • CASE: Hardshell Case Included
  • WEIGHT: Just at or slightly 9 lbs (I'll get specifics on this tonight)
TOTAL MSRP: $2400

STREET PRICE: Approximately $1800 with a 5+ month wait (similar bass here: http://www.rocketmusic.net/cgi-bin/comm ... n&key=3871)

MY ASKING PRICE: $1025 + shipping via PayPal

Only trades I would consider are a new Streamliner 900 or a new TecAmp Puma 900 with some cash to you (preferred).

Bottom line, this bass is in near mint condition and sounds unbelievable... with the custom wiring, it can pretty much handle any fretless tone possible.

I took out the preamp because G&L preamps are simply a gain boost and have nothing to do with the treble and bass controls, which are both passive. Since the pickups on these basses are hot as it is, I felt like the preamp was completely useless... all it did was make the bass too loud and distort the input stage on my amp. So I took it out and wired it completely passive giving the bass way more tonal options.

Here are the NEW controls:

Knobs: Master Volume, Passive Treble, Passive Bass
Switches: Pickup Selector, Coil Tap Neck Pickup, Coil Tap Bridge Pickup

Each pickup can now be switched to series, parallel, and outer single coil mode individually. Since each pickup has its own switch, you can now have the front pickup single coil and the rear pickup parallel... front pickup series and rear pickup single coil.... etc, etc, etc... I'm horrible at math, but I think that will give you 15 possible combinations, if you include each pickup individually in each mode. Add the passive bass and treble controls in there, and it's limitless.

Included in the sale:
  • The original preamp and controls
  • Near Mint G&G Hardshell Deluxe Tolex Case
  • G&L Paperwork
PM me or post questions here, and I'll get back to you ASAP. If nobody snatches this in the next few weeks, it's headed to eBay. Please don't make me do that! :)

Thanks!!!

Man that is nice! Is the headstock blackburst or solid black? That wiring mod you you did is a great idea - I always use passive mode on these, and having single coil on these is really a good sound. I just had my L2K modded for single coil, but the way you did it it's even more versatile. Good luck with the sale it's really nice.

Thank so much!!

The headstock is a blackburst, the same as the body.

I'll take some better pics within a day or two.

Super quick batch of pics while the kids were eating... sorry for the crummy rug background, but I think you get the idea.

Also, here's a weird little thing I came up with one day... I didn't want to forget it, so I recorded it...

Bridge pickup is in parallel and neck pickup is in series and treble and bass are dimed.

Meaty!

Yeah, it's pretty damn cool... and the growl you get in single coil mode with the bridge pickup soloed is out of control.

Hmmm... might have to do some more sound clips this weekend.

:ugeek:

OK, here's a sample of the bridge pickup in single coil mode...

It's an ambitious sample... it's my favorite alltime JP tune and I just started trying to learn it a little bit ago, so please, please, PLEASE fogive my awful hackjob attempt at it... I just thought it was the best possible tune I could play that could demonstrate how many different tones this bass is capable of.

Enjoy... and be easy on me!!!

I keep checking this beautiful bass out. Can’t afford it at this time. Never played a fine string or fretless either. Just GASing.

Weight update... 9.23 lbs according to my kitchen scale...

Pretty light for an unchambered swamp ash/ebony/maple 5-string in this price range!

Now would be an awesome time for someone to die and leave me $1025 + shipping.

Just beautiful.

Played this bass the last couple of nights and I'm seriously considering just holding onto it for now...

Ugh.

You guys waited too long and now I might change my mind...

It's literally set up PERFECTLY... nice and low action with tons of mwah... it just has this earthy resonate growl that my Zon doesn't have. The Zon sounds killer too, but the tone if this bass is the ying to the Zon's yang.

Hmmm... what to do, what to do... ?

How about a 2007 American Deluxe Jazz (sunburst) in fantastic shape as a possible trade?

Hey!

No thanks. Great bass, but I have a CS '64 Jazz that satisfies my 4-string jazz needs.

I already bought the head I wanted, so at this point I'm really only looking for a cash sale... but I'll still entertain reasonable trade offers, just to see what's out there.

If I don't get any takers on this in the next week or so, I'll probably put it up on eBay... still thinking about keeping it too.

Just can't make up my mind.

Heh... :?
