Just spent the weekend at the Rogue studio here in Toronto with my band Clockwise. (http://clockwisecanada.com) It's a power pop sort of affair. I wanted to share some of the rough (very rough) mixes with y'all to get some feedback. Again, these are very rough, faders up mixes for us to listen to before the mixing sessions. Vocals and guitars are not located or processed the way they will likely be in the end. Keep that in mind.
All I Want Is Everything - http://snd.sc/I4a7dR
I used my Thunderbird (custom replica) on this track. Two bass tracks mixed 50/50 (so far). One straight to a DI and the other is my Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 with an Aguilar DB112 cab mic'd. I've got the AGS drive on the amp up at about 11 o'clock for this one. This one gets pretty heavy in the freestyle outtro.
Broken Hearted Again - http://snd.sc/I4atRG
This is the first recording I've done with the Rickenbacker 4004Cii I bought from gentleman on this forum. Same two track set up, same amp settings. (And yes, that's my super high falsetto stylings on the bops etc.)
I Really Don't Understand - http://snd.sc/I4auoS
I used my Mexican Jazz with flat wounds on this one. DI and mic'd the cab with no drive this time.
Someone Or Something New - http://snd.sc/I4avca
Back to the Ric and back to the same DI/Amp set up with some drive. I think this one is really gonna kick it when the bass has it's proper place in the mix.
The beds (drums, bass and rhythm guitar) are unedited takes. We try not to employ too much in the way of editing if we can help it. Let me know what y'all think.

Got To Use Some Of My Newer Gear In The Studio...
Sometimes I think, maybe I'm lucky I'm left handed. If I could play any bass I wanted, my collection would REALLY be out of control.

Awesome scratch demos!
I especially like "all I want is everything". Damn near radio-ready in it's current form.

Hey Man. Thanks for the props! I don't know about "radio-ready" at the moment, but I'm really excited to see what happens when it's mixed. Our producer is very sympathetic to our cause - and sound - and always brings out the best in the final product. He kinda drives me around the bend sometimes but it's worth it in the end. (He's a bass player as well and has a distinctly different approach to playing than I do. After some head butting, we usually land on the same page and the best sound for the song.)AzWhoFan wrote:Awesome scratch demos!

Gotta say I like the sound of the Mexican Fender with the flats the best, but I tend to like the old-school fatness... all the songs sound good as well. Would like to hear the songs again when they're mixed to your satisfaction.

Oh yeah, you guys are in good shape.
Really nice rough tracks. Good recordings and solid performances all around. Shouldn't take much to fine tune 'em.
I've gotta say I'm still partial to your T-Bird, as I was on the other track(s) you used it on. I like "hooky" bass lines that help carry the melody of a tune, especially in pop/rock.
