Re: Wal Mach III Bass Left Handed Lefty 4 String (RARE)
The description says "This bass was originally built for right handed strings but was later converted by my Luthier"
If that's true, then shouldn't it still look like a right handed bass? In the pictures the cutaway design and the control placement are already correct for a lefty. Either something is screwed up or the pictures have been mirrored.
Am I wrong on this?
I emailed the seller.

Might've just meant the nut was slotted and bridge adjusted for a righty string setup?

Like the pic of the P-Bass at the top of this forum, Steve Chesney (the original owner) plays with the strings upside down on a lefty bass from learning on a righty bass. It's a left handed bass.
Re: Wal Mach III Bass Left Handed Lefty 4 String (RARE)
well it makes sense now but he'd be better off giving a bit more detail. You don't normally think of some one intentionally stringing it "wrong" altho I did see a guy in Austin who played a lefty bass like that.
Re: Wal Mach III Bass Left Handed Lefty 4 String (RARE)
Was the guy in Austin our own AustinLeftyBass?
I think the most known lefty to string their basses that way is Jimmy Haslip.
FYI, the seller of this Wal is Gravesbass, the original poster in this thread.

Andrew and all.. It's my bass. I figured you would known that from the pass listed here for sale months ago. I finally put her up on the evil bay but restricted to US buyers only. I had a nightmare of a dealing with Germany 8 months ago so no overseas on this guy. I removed the converted to lefty part due to confusion. As you can see, it was never a righty bass. Its a left handed bass that was strung "originally" upside down (E bottom, G top). Its back to lefty standard and al is good.
Re: Wal Mach III Bass Left Handed Lefty 4 String (RARE)
sorry to have generated confusion. It makes sense now but I think he might want to clarify a little in the ad. It's even more unusual than "normal" left handed playing so it didn't occur to me. If it confused me it may well confuse others too.
I don't remember much about the lefty in Austin with reversed strings, this was about 3 years ago. I think his bass was a yellow or white Precision. Might have been a Jazz. Trying to remember the music. Wouldn't have been heavy metal or punk. More than likely an R&B mix, blues or country. (I saw a lot of different bands). I remember talking to him briefly about his upside down strings and how that would affect playing.

The bass sold and it's getting a new home. Evil bay fees and paypal raped me.... Ouch the service charges hurt.

That bass has been one of my wallpapers for awhile!
Glad to hear it went to a good home.
Cheers!

Well, I have one Wal left. Its my 1995 Poly Black Mach II. The Germany shipping nightmare bass. I posted it here somewhere. Its a beaut but needs some work. Damn lefty's that string righty. It needs a new nut and a little restoration. Killer bass tho but the Zebrano I sold I still think sounds better and more unique. 1 down, 3 more to go......
