66/67 Gibson EB-2?

Post by Pro Stock John »

Just found this forum, very cool.

So how rare is a 66/67 Gibson EB-2 semi-hollow body? Mine is single pickup, red, and has a correct Gibson case. Missing the pick guard. Had Pete Moreno ? make me one years ago but he screwed up and sent me one cut for two pick ups.

I don't have pics on this computer I'll see if I saved the pics I had before.

Welcome:

Lefty Gibson EB2s are very rare, like most other lefty Gibson basses. I've personally never seen a lefty EB2, (and believe me I look, LOL) so I'd hold onto that one if I were you. Or contact me when you want to get rid of it. ;)

Interesting you've never seen one before, you are quite the collector from what I've read.

I bought mine sometime around 1994 from RT 66 Guitars in California. I believe they had an ad in a magazine, Vintage Guitar Mag or something like that?

I didn't have a chance to take some new pics last nite but will try to do that over the weekend.

Glad I found this forum!

just my two cents - - i would look carefully at the grain pattern of/on the wood - face of guitar ,where a "normal" righty would have the volume -tone and input jacks ,to see if it was ever a "regular" production right handed instrument , that was customized into a left handed instrument. ( I am not insinuating anyone is a liar ) I once had an Epiphone Rivoli customized lefty for me , since it was a burst , the dowell plugs glued in place looked slightly different from the grain pattern of the original face of the instrument , ,however ,i then repeated this customization later on ,with a gloss black Rivoli ,and once that repair job was painted to match ,it was undetectable !!! pipps

There are no holes on the other side of the body that have been plugged up or anything. I've had one shop look at it and they said it was legit. I also live by Chicago Music Exchange and could have it appraised but I don't really want to sell it unless someone offered me a big number for it.

I bought it from RT66 Guitars back in 1994? I think, I think they were in LA. It was a large ad in some mag, maybe a cheapy newspaper type classifieds.

I'll clean it up at some point.

I'd like to learn more about this guitar, I'm guessing I can copy off the info on that paper inside the guitar? I haven't looked at it in a while.

Would it be worth more if I were able to source a correct pick guard for it? And if I did, where might I get one?

Thx

Oops I have to rehost the pics.

So nobody else has an EB2 lefty? Jimmy from Southpaw says he's seen a few over the years. He offered to buy mine.

I gave up trying to find one and went with a Chinese copy of an EB 2D (D for double pickups).
It actucally plays and sounds pretty nice. The Fender is real. A 73 I bought new in N YC.
