What direction do lefty pots/knobs turn?

Post by Lefty007 »

I can't remember anymore which way is "right" for us lefties.

My '08 MIA Jazz has volume and tone pots that are at zero when turned fully clockwise, and fully on when turning counterclockwise. Most of the basses I've had worked this way.

Then my '82 Jazz is the opposite, which feels weird to me.

So which ones are actually lefty pots?

Since I switch basses constantly, I'm tired of having to think for a minute which direction that particular bass goes. Sorry, I'm slow like that.

Hmm.. I have basses from the same manufacturer(RIC) whose pots turn different ways on different basses. And they're the original pots.

As you're looking at the knob, counterclockwise is correct. The older Fenders (CBS and I think Smith) and pre-EB Musicmans I've owned all turned the opposite of that.
