Rickenbacker 4003 mapleglo

I'm parting ways with my beloved Rickenbacker 4003. I need the funds.

I bought it brand new in January of 2009, it was made in late 2008 (SN is 08 14564). The bass is in all-original condition, apart from the bridge pickup cover I removed because I like to pluck the strings over the bridge pickup. I installed a Deluxe Treble Bezel by Tubeampology to cover up the gaps in the bridge pickup surround. This can easily be reversed, no modifications have been made to the bass to install it. The original cover is still included, as is the original Rickenbacker case with all case candy.

Rickenbacker ceased production and taking orders of lefthanded instruments in late 2009, to clear out the long backorderlist of regular production instruments without increasing their production. As of yet it is unknown if, and when, the production of lefty instruments will be continued. Therefore this one may well be one of the last.

I've not played this bass very often, I've always had a bit of a difficult relationship with this bass. I love its tone, but I've always found it very uncomfortable to play. I played a few gigs with it and rehearsed with it a couple of times, but more often find myself playing my Fender Jazz or my Ibanez Musicians onstage. Therefore this bass has had very little to suffer. However, it does have a bit of a craquelé-effect in both cutaways which I could never quite explain. This has been there since I first took it out of the box brand new and has never bothered me, although it has increased very slightly during the two years I've had the bass. A couple of small hairline cracks in the finish can also be seen on the heel of the neck. It's just the finish though, the wood is completely undamaged.

I'm asking €1.800 (this includes shipping within Western-Europe) but I'm open to offers. I'm not interested in trade offers. I would prefer to ship to the European mainland only.

Nice. How come you never took the sticker off the pickguard?

I've always wanted a 4003 in natural with white binding (had a black binding one). Wish I had the extra money I'd be happy to get this.

I'm not quite sure actually
It never bothered me. Now that you mention it, it appeared to me I have seen many recent 4003's with the sticker still in place :P

Jeroen, I believe your true intention for posting these pix is to show off the fine wood grain of your laminate floors. The bass doesn't look half bad either. ;)

I've still left the stickers on some of my basses as well (The Schecter Baron H, for example). I guess my thought process is it maintains the "newness" look of an instrument and might be a plus should I decide to sell it later.

Dang, if that's true there's going to be a lot of pi$$ed off ebay-buyers who bought Ric's in the last few months.

I'll also bet that if you don't get your order in with Ric in the first 24 hours, you'll have another 2 year wait.

Here's the thread from the Ric forum where their production manager says they will start producing lefties again in the 1st half of 2011 -

SOLD! The payment should be on my bank account today. The bass IS going to Spain :)

I'm pretty overwhelmed by all the responses I got. I still get mails each day of people inquiring if I still have the bass. I've had incredible trade offers (someone offered me an awesome USA-made Lakland 55-94, which I would gladly have accepted under different financial circumstances), people were willing to take out a loan to be able to afford my bass, someone was already looking for cheap flights from Spain to the Netherlands to pick the bass up himself... Just crazy! I've sold some cool basses on the internet before, but I've never had this kind of response.
