Anyone here interested in these basses? If they offered them lefty would you get one?

I've bellyached for years that MM should do a gloss finished maple neck again, if they offer these up lefty I'm buying one.
I think I'd have to go natural finish because it's a classic MM to me, but I really dig that salmon finish they offer too.

A good friend of mine (righty player) just got 2 of these. 1 was a custom Red from Guitar Center and the second was black. Both with the most BEAUTIFUL yellowy birdseye maple I have ever seen. They sounded really good. I, ummmm.... gassed and picked up a used EB SR4 Lefty in natural with maple neck and black PG..... Thats the traditional MM Stingray specs... I hear they wont offer in lefty but if they do, please make a note here. Its only 2 band but really sounded great!

If they can keep their prices for the European market reasonable, I'm buying one for sure. I've been gassing over both pastel and vintage colors AND a 2-band 'Ray for quite a time. I just hope they won't be too heavy (although I'm a little bit spoiled with my current basses, weight-wise).

Do you have any info on a possible limited lefty run maybe?

I prefer the 2 band as well. I test drove the 2 band MM pre East preamps made so i have a proto version of that in my Stingray. Sounds much better to my ears than the EBMM 3 band pre it replaced.

Apparently the 2 band pre is part of the issue with making these lefty, because i believe EB does not make a lefty 2 band pre.

Hopefully Chuck will chime in on what he's heard our chances of getting these in lefty are.

I'd definitely be interested. I agree the 2 band is the way to go - more organic, less hi fi sterile tones.

I recently played a Sterling through a Mesa M9 amp and Mesa 2x15 at a store and was wowed by the sound. I love my Stingray and Sabre but generally go with Fender style basses. This bass/amp combo rekindled my interest in MM basses.

Well... that's a personal preference in taste. I personally like the 3-band preamp in the SR4's I have owned and played when EQ'd proper. It's all in the hands my friend and I have a good set of them to make anything sound good.

I am new to this forum and I am actually a righty. Gravesbass is a buddy of mine and an excellent bassist too I must say. I recently purchased two Stingray 4 "Classics" (Candy Apple Red and Black, both with maple boards). Although I only kept the black one. I have also owned 2 1977 Pre-Ernie Ball Rays and at least 10 Ernie Ball (3 band) Rays over the years. I must say that the "Classic" is the closest Ray to date to the original Leo Fender StingRay from the 1970's. The only thing really missing is the skunk tail strip on the back of the neck. EBMM did not actually plan the "Classic" to be an exact reissue of the original, but rather take the best features from both designs and come up with a "Classic StingRay since they have received many requests to come out with a reissue. For instance, they decided to keep the 6 bolt neck pocket and wheel adjustment truss rod (as opposed to the bullet truss rod found on the original). I would not say the 3 band EB preamp "sucks", but rather that it is different sonically compared to the 2 band (As noted, I found the 2 band to be very close to my two 77 Rays). I personally prefer the two band EQ for the type of music my band plays. The 3 band EQ with the mids may be a better choice for some players based on the style of music they are playing. NTL, it is personal preference, style of playing, etc. It is too bad that manufacters don't produce more basses for left handed players. Hopefully, Music Man will get a lot of requests for a left handed "Classic" 4 and at least release a limited run for those lefty players wanting a "Classic" 4 StingRay.

I plugged a right-handed one at guitar center and it sounded incredible! The 2 band preamp is indeed better than the 3 band (because it covers a wider range of frequencies) and the string-through configuration brought a wonderful sustain. In my opinion, one of the best bass sound I have ever heard.

But...no lefties anyway...dream...dream

Would I?....You betcha! Especially the 5 string as I have always thought the traditional oval pickguard should have been used instead of the regular one that covers almost the entire front of the bass
