So I just bought this pretty Mexican mariachi machine. I’m waiting for it to arrive. I’ve NEVER put my hands on one of these before. Anyone here with any experience on one?
Looking forward to learning something new.

Awesome! You're gonna need a moustache now though!

I believe they are tuned A-D-G-C, so "up a string" from what we think of as standard. That's about all I know.

The moustache and sombrero should appear automatically when you hold the instrument. If not, it may be defective.

It’s tuned

A-D-G-(middle) C-E(above middle C), then back down to the A below middle C

Oh, jeez. I didn't even realize it has six strings!

How interesting, that the bottom string is a lower tuning than the string above it.

Super awesome! I've been curious about these forever. It's one of the few acoustic basses I've heard live where you can actually hear the thing unplugged over other instruments. I guess it necessitates having 6 strings to cover more range, given how short the neck is? Does it take proprietary strings? Anyway, let us know how it is, Matt.

It takes special guitarron strings for sure. Not brand specific though. Looks like it will be a no brainer on stringing it left handed too.
