I can't believe nobody's ever come up with a strat-style bass before

Weird. This concept has been around for years, but Stanley Clarke is still promoting hit like he invented it :|. He tried earlier in 2018, when he collaborated with Fender:

Landing Bass Guitars has been making Strat style shortscale basses for many years, but appears to have gone out of business. Their site is down. They did them in all pickup configurations you could dream up: SSS, SS, PJ, JJ, P, HH, you name it. Really cool concept!

Edit: Jersey Bluesdude beat me to it :)

The aesthetics are different, but I think of the MM Big Al as a strat-style bass. Again, no lefties :(

I’ve always thought the Big Al was really cool design.

Holy shit that’s cool. And yes, I’ve always wanted to mess around with a whammy bar on bass 8-)

But those are regular long scale designs, just with 3 single coils. The Landing and Spellcaster basses are actual Strat bodies with a short scale neck 8-)

Yeah, good point. I do think these look really interesting and fun. Whammy bar on a bass? Hell yeah!
Was just agreeing that the Spellcaster isn’t a TOTALLY new idea.
