‘74 Jazz. My beloved Battle Axe Rides Again.

Through dumb luck, I was finally able to acquire a neck (CS) to replace the warped one on my favorite bass, an Olympic White 74 Jazz.

I’ve had it back together for a couple weeks now. It’s even better than the original. Cannot wait to rock this one in a live, post-pandemic capacity.

That's awesome! Did you find that neck used somewhere, or did you get the Fender Custom Shop to make you one?

The maple in that neck is so nice. It has that great 3D effect.

Not used. Long boring story but it was a gift basically. I’m so grateful to have this thing back together. I haven’t been able to gig with it since 2016.

Glad to see you've got the 74 back up and running Matt! Nice paring. Looks great! I've got a Masterbuilt CS 55 P bass with a flame quarter sawn maple neck and its the best playing and sounding Fender I own. I've wondered how much is due to the neck. Sounds like you're pleased with yours as well. Enjoy!

Lovely blonde on maple bound en blocked neck combination!

Is the neck a one-piece, or is the fretboard laminated? Probably not easy to see because of the bound neck

Hm, I’m actually not sure if it’s one piece or not.

Congrats Matt, betcha she's killer! Out of curiosity is that an A or B neck profile?

I don’t know anything about neck profiles sorry. Ha

I'm talking about the stamp on the base of the neck. As you probably well know if it was a 'C' shape neck you'd be holding a baseball bat :-).

Just checked my pix of the neck heel. It doesn’t have the neck shape. It’s supposed to be a clone of the original neck, so I assume whichever neck shape was the deal in 1974 will be what this is. I need to learn more about that aspect of Fender Basses.

It is a one piece neck. If it was a capped neck you would see the seam line on the front of the headstock between the nut and the walnut tear drop shunk stripe spot . It also appears that the grain pattern on the fretboard matches the front of the head stock.

Agree. I examined it closer today after reading these posts. You’re correct!
