Hi everyone, I talked to Jimmy Coppolo last week and he WILL make his fine basses in lefty versions. Not cheap but apparently awesome. 10% upcharge...it was a lot of trouble & money to make this possible from his standpoint. From what I read, his basses are as close as you can get to having a '62 Jazz with a B-string...nitro finish and all.

most likely due to him needing to have a CNC program coded for a flipped neck ... unless he simply has the shop CNC him a flipped neck and then they cut the rather large headstock by hand.

if the former, then it's about $500 - $1000 for the CNC code and validation work ... if the latter, then it's more like a $100 - $150 upcharge for the added shop time.

I swear I saw a Coppolo bass left handed at winter NAMM in 2008. Did he say he has never made one of these before? I swear I saw one but didn't play it. This was 2 NAMM shows ago. They are very nice but 10% upcharge is a lot and his basses are already a lot. What is the build time on one of these.

Here is one of Chewy's basses that used to be at the LowEnd. It's an older version 2005ish? They have much better and flexible controls now.

Check the TLE archives (sold basses), there should be a bunch more of Chew's cast-off's. There were a couple of nice Modulus' last time I looked

There's a shop in NYC on 9th Ave. and 50th st. called The New York Guitar and Bass Boutique that had a left handed Alleva Copollo '51 SCPB copy about a year ago.

I bought that bass but returned it within the 48-hour period. I have to say it was probably the best Jazz-Bass sound I've heard. Incredibly complex, punchy and vintagey at the same time. And the quality was very nice, although it had a nitro finished that peeled easily - but that's the intention.

Unfortunately, the bass weighed more than 10 lbs (that specific model is made with northern ash on purpose, for that late-'70s sound, but they can be ordered with lightweight wood) and the neck was very wide, and the profile didn't agree with my hands.

I think Alleva is hands down one of the finest builders of Fender-type bass out there-
