A bassist AND a cartoonist. How cool is that? Do you do strips or animation? Any work on the web we could see? I did some cartooning in high school/college for the school papers, but now I'm down to just doodling for my kids, LOL.

It's pretty damn cool except for when the time comes to pay the bills! I mostly do indie comics, but I also do illustration and I've done animation in the past. Welcome to the forums! I went to your websites to see your drawings, and liked them very much. Read the Kingwood Himself comic, and like the underlying message. Any plans to have more adventure with Emily and the Animals over the fence?

In the meantime, enjoy the forum....this is the best lefty forum you'll find, and there is a lot of comeraderie here that at times can be lacking in other bass forums.... so, enjoy!

Thanks for the kind words! Kingwood Himself was meant as an introduction to a larger story, but I was only interested in drawing it if I could get it published. I shopped it around a bit, nobody picked it up, so that's probably it for the short term. I love the characters though, so I might incorporate some of them into future stories.

I have very much been enjoying the forum! As you pointed out, the sense of camaraderie here is palpable. Most forums are either polite or honest (or just downright mean), but this one is both (with no meanness). I think I'll be pretty happy here!

I'm playing a Japan Fender Jazz from the end 80ies and recently bought a steinberger spirit XT2(which I will sell again as it's not my thing) and a SR800L from the mid 90ies.

Joined to be part of the lefty bachbird groupbuy but now that I found this place I will probably visit more often

My current basses include:

- Nordstrand NX6. Though I had to wait 2 yrs, Carey built me a stunning 6 string 'grandson' of a P-bass. It has one huge splitcoil pu, alder body with walnut top and maple neck with cocobolo fretboard. Amazing bass. I'm managing but I'm still learning to find my way on its 6 strings
- Celinder Classic repro of a '62 P-bass. Sunburst finish on an alder body, cocobolo fretboard on a thick maple neck with 'traditional' P-bass width. Probably gets me close to the real thing than anything else on the market...
- Human Base ClassX 4string fretless. You don't want to hear me play this bass yet...

My basses are passive only and strung with Thomastik or LaBella flats.

Currently my daytime job as Controller and family are consuming a lot of time, but I do have two bands (1: vintage '60s/'70s style funk 2: blues/funk/pop/rock power trio).

I have an old face, but I have never been here before.... I recognize a few names here from TB, HCBF, and ebassist, and they'll know me, too.

Lefty through-and-through, big B on top - the way God intended!!! Been working in clubs and bars since age 14 or so (state laws allow that for musicians) and really just got older but not better. I have five lefty basses:

1987 G&L SB-1 (split pups) (4-string) redburst
1994(?)Carvin LB75 (stacked humbies) natural mahogany
1998 Alembic Orion (4-string) vermillion top
2003/4(?) MTD Kingston (5-string), active, black
unknown p.o.s. Hohner acoustic/electric that I use in "acoustic" or bluegrass gigs (4-string) black "tiger stripe"

I currently work in two projects: classic rock/country band (fairly successful...for many years), and a community orchestra/choir/church thingy complete with two violins, two flutes, cello, trombone, trumpet, euphonium, piano, but also acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle (state champion bluegrass fiddler), drums or djemba, and me on electric bass, in front of a 16-20 piece choir. Very diverse music, from showtunes to semi-classical to contemporary Christian to just plain bluegrass (think "Oh, Brother"). One group requires a good memory and numbering system, the other group requires sight-reading sheet music, where I fail miserably.... Lots of fun - keeps me on my toes and keeps me quite busy.


EDIT: I laugh about the Hohner...I have replaced all four tuning keys after the second one stripped, had to do some patching on the input jack, had to do some patching on the pre-amp, and I noticed recently that the nut is cracked and must be replaced. But, I paid $250 delivered (used) and I really have grown fond of it. It is my "knockaround" bass that I grab first, unless gigging. Funny how we get attached to the least expensive things sometimes....
