Darn it!
I was really hoping you would say that they are terrible and to stay away from them at all cost. :D

Hey, that looks great. :)

Did you end up playing it stock at that gig, or have you switched out the pots, wiring, etc? I'm curious if these basses are good to go out of the box or require any improvements.

Sorry, reduced the pic size.

Played it totally stock.

I can only speak for my SX Jazz. Except for needing a minor setup and neck adjustment, it was completely gigable right out of the box. Even the strings weren't that bad.

However, I did the following mods;

Replaced bridge with a Gotoh 201 - I hate Fender type bridges and the stock SX bridge didn't have grooves to keep the saddles stable. I have a rather heavy attack and noticed a bit of saddle movement while playing. Plus I just prefer a heavier bridge.

Replaced the pots, cap and wiring and had the cavities completely shielded. The stock electronics are completely usable, but the upgrades are better. The pickups sound very good so I left them in.

Replaced the pickguard and knobs, This is purely an aesthetic issue on my part. I dislike plain white pickguards so I replaced it with a vintage white pearloid and I put the standard black Jazz knobs on 'cause the chrome P-bass knobs just look wrong on a Jazz IMO. :D

I re-strung it with Chromes and I think this bass will wear them for the rest of it's life, the tone is perfect! I have been playing this bass to the exclusion of all my others since I got it. :shock: Who'd a thunk it!?

Cheers!
