Where are you all?

Post by SubsonicAssault »

I was just wondering if we could start a thread to see where everyone is located on the forum...also, name one thing you like and dislike about where you live.

I myself live in Denver, CO. I've been here for about 2 years after moving from Nebraska. I would say one thing I like about Denver is that it is bigger and more populated/busier than any city in Nebraska (including Omaha). One thing I dislike about Denver is that the local music scene for anything that I myself am interested in playing is absolutely shit. Its disappointing.

I'm from Westerly, RI, which happens to be one of the most musical areas of New England. I believe that Roomful of Blues started here, but I'm not sure, but Westerly is home to many famous musicians including Al Copely. I hate in the summertime when all the highbrows from New York come up and clog our small town streets with their Maybachs and Porches only to go and dirty up the beach, that I'm paid to keep clean in the winter.

I'm currently in the greater Seattle, WA area, but headed to Charlotte, NC

before calling Seattle home I also was in the MetroWest area of Boston, and before that I was a few minutes south of Nashville (Huntsvegas for those in the know).

all the best,

R

Hi,
I'm in the south of France,
Well, here it is a real desert to find real musician playing, the fashion here is the discotheque and DJ's!!!
That's why i've decided to stop playing in 2001,i'm now working in a recording studio, making some music and jingle for Radio message, the last interesting thing i've done playing music was the Eurovision contest in 2003,i've made the bass line for the winner and it was a very interesting experience
Here in the summer we have an interesting concert called "les voix du gaou",and some well known musician come, this year ZZtop will be comming !!! 8-)
How about using Google earth to localise each other?

Cheers

Hello all:

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and up until 4 years ago lived throughout the NY metropolitan area all my life. Moved to the Oranges in New Jersey 4 years ago to get more for my money than an overpriced 1 room apartment and to live out the typical American dream - wife, car, house, and 2 kids (in that order). Drawbacks? Owning a house means I'm constantly maintaining it, mowing the lawn, raking or blowing leaves, and fixing never-ending stuff that seems to break down every week. (Water heater died 2 weeks ago, washing machine this week). Not to mention a complete lack of time to play bass!

I am Tennessean by birth and live in Nashville. I love it here.

Here is a short vid and some typical touristy style pics of the "downtown" scene. Otherwise known as Lower Broad or 2nd Ave. area. Dive bars and honky tonks galore. Hasbeens, wannabees, neverweres, willbees, stars, and superstars. They are all here. Everybody ready to sign on the dotted line (again). Most of the money is made on the corner by the buskers though.

The statue is of James Robertson and John Donelson the founders of Nashville. The fort is Fort Nashborough and sits on the Cumberland River across from the NFL stadium where the Titans lose a lot (just kidding I guess). The stadium means we're a BigLeagueCity or something. All I know is that my taxes went up a lot.

I come from Oulu, a city of whopping 130000 inhabitants and still among the largest cities in Finland
Oulu is The technology capital of Finland and host to the annual Air Guitar world championships.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oulu

The only thing I really dislike (although I piss and moan about many things) in Oulu is the weather, at least in the recent years.
Summers have been pretty cold and/or rainy the past two years.
We've had like 5 winters this year:
First there was no snow,
then it snowed,
then it went away,
then it rained,
then came the -20,
then there was sunshine,
then it snowed.
Wash, rinse and repeat.
It rained today in the middle of April!! We should be outside enjoying spring, but instead, we have blizzards.

Altogether, I like living here. It's small, but hey, It's a city.

I’m from the mountains of Virginia but I live in North Carolina now. We have a 100 year old farmhouse in Virginia and we plan to retire there. We have parties and celebrate all the holidays there. I can see the church that my wife and I were married in (25 years ago). It’s always ten degrees cooler there and we’re building a party barn code named “The Elk Creek Civic Center”.

KingOfAmps those Nashville pictures bring back a lot of memories. Back when I was touring with the Bellamy Brothers I would often meet the bus there, I've left my truck in Shoney’s parking lot for months.

hey all-
hanging just west of philadelphia - playing all sorts of gigs from original jazz, alien infused klezmer, world groove, straight ahead bebop, vocal alternative/improv. trio stuff and yes, weddings - real fortunate to play with a bunch of great players that reside in this area from NYC to DC - a great 3 hour radius of killer players in many genres....now if we can just up the number of creative music venues, life would be that much better- be well out there!...oh and by then way, am i allowed to be on this site if i am a righty but PLAY lefty......and, uh....upside down???? ...just checking...

Absolutely. This is LEFTYBASSIST, and you are a lefty bassist. You can do whatever else right handed but what matters here is when you pick up your bass to play it.

:D This is great Bassman!!

I live in northern germany, southern to denmark. ;)
The town is called neumuenster. About 80.000 people live there.
Some make music, of course.
There are lots of "cover-bands" playing all the stuff you heard a
thousand times before. And there are death-metal bands. That's it.
I miss the punk bands.
And it's very hard to find other musicians if your band should
sound like "tool" for example.
But i like the weather here.

Greetings from Germany

after a month I'm starting to go nuts without a shop  I've been searching to no end for something reasonably close that is available by the hour, but so far nothing is turning up. I found a place near the West Seattle bridge for $350/mo, but I don't have that kind of cash to blow for a place I'd be using for only 10 hours or so each month

all the best,

I'm living in my version of paradise.... Kelowna, BC, Canada. Trom the deck of my house I can se patches of blue water from Lake Okanogan, and it's a two minute walk to be in that water. The greatest thing about this city is the "scenery" all summer long... don't like it, pick a different direction to look.

The music culture here is fairly young from what I can tell, but there's a decent blues faction I enjoy being part of. Enough guitarists and bassists kicking about that if I don't know a thing, there's always someone to ask... lefties though? not so much.
And for my next trick which involves a small furry animal and a member of the audience, preferably of the opposite sex...
