Fender Custom Shop Jazz '66 NOS

Post by Matt R. »

I've been waiting almost 2 years for this beast and here it is. It's basically 1966 specs but it has a 9.5 radius and 70s pickups. It's absolutely perfect. The neck is otherworldly. In my opinion it's also somewhat easy on the eye.

Matt - it is Absolutely Gorgeous! I have to ask though... do you prefer a J over a P?

Thanks guys! It really is a stunner. When we opened the case at the store I picked it up from, even the store owner was like “It…glows!” 8-)

Congrats! That’s got to be the most beautiful JB I’ve ever seen.

Guess I'm going to have to pull my Japanese '62 J-bass reissue out, and get into learning more about the tone of a J...

Jaw-dropping beautiful!

Matt, what is the difference between 60s and 70s pickups on a Jazz?

Congratulations, Matt, well worth the waiting time ;-)
Just curious: why only the (early '66) binding, so without the blocks?

I just always loved the look of that binding/dot combination. Besides, I have several that have the binding and blocks

Well I only have experience with actual 70s pickups, but not actual 60s ones so I probably can’t answer this fully. But on a previous CS Jazz I had, there were hand wound pickups that were supposed to be period correct. Those sounded beautiful, but I hated the output.
The 70s pickups to my ear (both real and reissue) sound angrier to me and with higher output. I had Fender put 70s style pickups in this one. That along with the 9.5 radius are the only specs on this bass that are non-60s
