Lefty Bunker Bass

Post by Murzenquest »

Whoa.
I don’t know enough about these to comment on the price, but this seemed worth sharing. What a weird, cool little bass! Kind of reminds me of the Atlansia stuff. I love instruments like this that are basically functional art.

and apparently the designer, Dave Bunker, just died... That’s a shame. Sounds like he pretty innovative guy.

Here’s a link to a little tribute Instagram post (if you’re able to see it, I’m not on there myself...) from DiPinto Guitars with a little info and history.

This is undoubtedly the craziest lefty ever posted here. It's like a suped up Wish bass.

The Reverb listing was suspended. The seller also had an expensive all aluminum 12 string bass listed as well.

Wow, looks like all his listings were suspended. It's a 2021 account with no feedback.

Here's the silver one for posterity:

Thanks for posting the silver 12 string I couldn't find it, Tim.
The Bunker is back up now at a lower price.

Maybe its the OCD in me but I see alot more of this on basses for sale. Why is there no picture of the whole base? I like the close up pictures but for me a picture of the whole bass is very important.

I'm with you on that Bob. When I see that it always make me scratch my head. Years ago there was a seller on Ebay that was making lefty basses and listing quite a few. He never posted a full shot. After a while, I sent him what I thought was a helpful suggestion. Basically, that I liked his work, but that I would really like seeing a full shot and that it might help with sales. He sent back a rather curt response. Something like everybody's a critic. Maybe others had messaged him with similar requests and I was the straw that broke the camels back. He continued posting them for a while longer, but never with a full shot. Eventually the posting stopped.

I’m with you guys on that too. It’s like a listing for a used car that doesn’t show the passenger side door only find out upon seeing it it’s been replaced by a wicker basket or something.
There’s just a certain transparency to being able to see the whole thing.

These guys built guitars and basses for Ibanez in the 1990s with that same neck concept, but with a regular headstock. Meet the USATK 8-)

Are Bunker basses THAT rare? :!:

So rare that Carmine doesn't own one?

That would be rare.

Not sure if these switches say On, or NO... and not a fan of the Gumby head design...still, it's all about how it sounds, not looks. Image

Also, thought I'd see if anyone had ever posted playing one up on youtube... none there, but there was this interesting video from Bunker on his very adjustable bass bridge system...
