Warwick Fortress One Masterman 5 (1995)

Post by fideidefensor »

Hi all!

Amazing (and rare) 90s Warwick (the golden age) up for grabs - the Fortress One Masterman (5-string). I'm selling it as I'm really more of a 4-string man.

Body is composed of ash, neck is 2 pieces of wenge and 1 piece of ovangkol. Fretboard is all wenge. Frets and fretboard are in excellent condition, truss rod also fully functioning.

The unique Masterman pickup is actually a dual-J, which can be combined (balance knob centered), or set separately. Tonally, this bass is capable of classic burpy jazz bass to the growl of an early 70s Stingray and everything in between. Check out YouTube for sound samples if you don't believe me. It also features the Just-A-Nut I, Warwick's most-loved adjustable nut.

The bass has been fitted with a Delano DJC-5 pickup (drop-in replacement), which I think is a bit cleaner and more articulate than the MEC. Regardless, I'll also include the original MEC with your purchase.

Bass is currently strung with new Sadowsky strings.

Frets and neck are in excellent condition. The body has a few dings and some scratches (see pictures). Overall, for a bass born in '95, nothing to be worried about. More pics available on request.

The Fortress One Masterman model has been discontinued since 2000 and is one of the most sought after Warwicks in the world. Don't miss your chance to own this amazing piece of equipment.

Asking price is 900 euros.

If you are intent on purchasing this bass, please contact me promptly so I can ensure adequate materials for swift and secure shipment.

I use to own the only other one of these I’ve ever seen. It was identical to yours.

It's definitely a great bass. I own a Fortress One from '96 which is pretty much my favorite bass of all time (just had to swap out the p-j and electronics - then it became amazing). The old wenge necks are imo some of the most comfortable and smooth necks to play. This 5 is a bit broader and thicker but feels great when you really dig in. I also own one of the earliest streamer lx's made ('01) and, while it sounds great and plays well, it's not quite as good neckwise (all ovangkol).

Yeah that makes two of us. There's a pretty nice Corvette Proline ('96) for sale on Reverb, also with the full wenge neck. The guy selling it lives in Amsterdam, I may just have to check it out, but then I've kinda been GASing for an Esh Stinger (Peter Steele tribute model).

I might be willing to part with my Esh Stinger. I have a 4-string in Dirty White (sandblasted ash in white with black grain) with EMG DC35's and of course the piezo bridge. I'm in Leidschendam :)
