78 Ibenez law suit Fender Jazz copy

Post by crescenze »

Great shape for the age with what appears to be original case candy. Improperly installed E tuner- Poor quality control?

There was one on CL and Reverb a couple of years ago exactly like this one for sale for about $700 for a few months and suddenly the price dropped to $350 and the seller mentioned there was a twist in the neck. I hope it's not this one.
Other than that it seems to be in great shape!

very cool. Looks almost new, like it's been sitting in the case since 1978!

Jesus Christ. Those were going for under $500 a couple years back.

Yeah, not sure about the realistic aspect of the price. It would have to be based it's the collective value. Not enough examples out there to really make a solid determination. Overall the best one I've seen. That said it's hard to determine what that's even worth. Right now it's hard to guess were prices are going to go. You know new normal and all.

What’s an “Ibenez”? (I know you meant Ibanez)

Guys- this was my bass, it had been in my collection for many years until involved in a trade about a month ago... Paulo- I’m surprised YOU didn’t recognize it! (This is definitely not whatever you saw a couple years ago on “CL or Reverb with a neck twist“ etc.) It sounds and plays like melted butter!

As far as the price, I suppose that’s in the eye (or wallet) of the beholder. You’re obviously not gonna find something like this every day, so for the right buyer if this was something you‘d always wanted, there’s really no comparison. The condition has to be seen in person to be believed- yes it literally is like a brand new unplayed 1978 time capsule... it’s everything the listing says, and then some.

I agree that is Like New only 42 years later, however I always found it funny that the Ibanez Lawsuit basses were during the worst quality at Fender. It's a shame that CBS was so focused on bottom line that the product really suffered.

This channel has some very informative videos on Fender P, Jazz and other products.

That's a relief! The other one I mentioned only had one picture and it was GC quality that's why it was hard to tell, couldn't see if the bass was beat up or in decent condition.
But I had no idea it was yours and if you say it's in great condition this is a no brainer! :)

Thank you my friend, I appreciate that! :)

When I acquired it several years ago it was basically as a collector piece- I already had a couple player grade ones to use, and this was so ridiculously nice that I couldn’t bring myself to do anything more than look at it every once in a while. So I finally decided to let go of it as part of my downsizing process.

I have no vested interest in this sale, but I figured the least I could do for anyone who’s interested is to verify that everything about the bass and the seller is totally legit.

I post stuff like this that I'm not well informed of and it's always a learning experience. I'm seldom disappointed. Thanks Carmine and the rest of the replies as well.

Man, that’s sweet, it probably slays a late Fender too.

The one Ibanez I always drooled for was the Black Eagle J bass. Does anybody know if they made lefties?

I don't believe so but I also really liked the horns on these basses.

Only person I ever saw playing one was Krist Novoselic from Nirvana.

Nice! What's the one to the far left? RB850?

It is! It was the one listed on Reverb with original case. I got 20% off buying it through the Reverb app. Couldn’t resist! It was better than advertised!

The 1980’s was such an innovative developmental era for Ibanez basses... imo so many of those models are underrated and under appreciated classics. The 1986 version RB850 is no exception. Man, they sound great!
