New addition

Post by markcv »

Been looking for a reasonably priced fretless of decent quality for a while and took a chance on this Carvin Icon 6. Knowing how good my IC5 is I thought it was a reasonable gamble. Aside from the difficulties of no lines and needing a setup and a new nut, the bass and hard shell case were in mint condition when they arrived and the finish is a pearl white. Quite stunning up close. Lotsa possibilities here. New guts at some point.

Looks nice! I like the Icon shape, and I love white, especially with an ebony fingerboard dyed black. Not sure about the blend of gold and black hardware, but otherwise beautiful!

Interestingly, I don’t think this fingerboard has been dyed black. It has a couple of tiny lighter colored grain areas that lead me to think it’s natural ebony, no dye. The fingerboard also has Carvin’s “Hard as nails” finish on it. I think it’s their version of the Pedulla fingerboard finish. I’m inclined to agree on the hardware front. They mixed and matched chrome and black on my Icon 5. I’m planning on changing them both some day to Hipshot black and gold tuners, and doing a mix and match with back and gold on the knobs. That will tie it together with the Carvin gold logo and the black bridge. Like my Icon 5, it too has the piezo bridge option.

Sweet bass Mark, hope you like it!
I must be the odd-man-out. I find lined fretlesses impossible to play. the lines mess up my intonation something fierce! Oh well … :-)
