I'm grateful to the guys who got me to consider the markerless ebony instead of the maple/blocks I got on my SB-2. It looks so bad-ass.

The binding is interesting. I didn't request it; it was an artistic judgment on the maker's part.

Can't wait to get the thing in hand. Maybe Monday...

I second that! Wow!!
In the topsy-turvy world of heavy rock, having a good solid piece of wood in your hand is often useful...

Congrats, and yes, the finish over the spalted wood, and the marker-less neck looks fantastic!

I contacted G&L about a 5-string lefty Kiloton. No dice. That is the only bass I would be interested in getting. Congrats on yours. Post a thorough review when you can.

Well it hurts, but I'm sending it back. As I mentioned, I didn't order binding, and as I suspected from the picture, there is no arm contour.

The bass is drop dead gorgeous. I mean really incredible looking. But I don’t like the look of a binding in general, and the overall effect is a top that awkwardly flat. And in terms of function, the sharp edge is going to make playing sitting down very uncomfortable very quickly.

But did I mention its gorgeous? Here are some pix:

Interesting, is that actual binding or did they just mask it off to look like binding? Looks like some of the wood grain runs from the red part through the binding part.

You're right, it's not a binding in the sense of an added piece of material. I think they call it a "carved binding."

Do they make the same bass with a drop-top? That would cure the numb arm issue.

I'm afraid I don't know what you mean by "drop top."

A drop top is a beveled top, perhaps contoured might be a better phrase? Kinda like a Fender Strat is contoured. At any rate it eliminates the sharp body edge.

A drop top has a contour where your forearm rests when playing with a pick. The top is bent to follow the curve in this area.

Right. The arm contour. G&L omitted it with no communication or explanation.
