Thinking of selling a few basses

Post by Psycho Ward »

I've accumulated 25 left handed basses over the years, but I don't play any of them anymore. That could change so I plan to keep a few. You guys seem to wheel and deal a lot more than me, so what's the best route to go? Of course anything that goes up for sale will be listed here, I've had pretty good luck with eBay, but I've never dealt with Reverb. Any input you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I’ve had a lot of success on Reverb. Fewer fees and it’s easy. Good luck selling!

What he said! Also Reverb has much better customer service IMO. I had an issue where USPS destroyed the shipping box of something I purchased (the gear was fine, fortunately) and Reverb held my hand the whole way. They went so far as to issue a credit for the shipping charge, before the seller got paid!!

Another vote for Reverb. Ebay's dead. Avoid it. The last time I listed there, I actually lost money because there were all sorts of little hidden fees you have to hunt and peck to figure out. So fuck them!

It may take while for your instruments to sell on Reverb, however, as there's no limit to the duration of time it lists, but everything I've ever listed there eventually sold.

I just sold a bunch as well, below is where they sold (I created a web page but I also posted some on reverb), I did the same as you, I offered a discount on Leftybassist as there are no selling fees. Consider how (UPS, Fed Ex) and where you are going to ship them and where (USA/Canada only or International). There are several facebook pages for selling basses that I posted my link on. Lastly stop and visit your local guitar shop, they have some boxes they may give you to ship in, I ran short real quick then had to pay Fed Ex to box them and that added a little extra cost. Finally think about payment, I used Paypal and that worked perfect but now there are other options and some folks asked to use them and I agreed.

Thanks! This is very helpful. I just don't need all of these basses and I don't want to hoard them. I guess I need to figure out which ones I can't part with, like the two one off's from EBMM. The amps will most likely be offered locally since they're ambidextrous.

I kept 4, 2 that played the best and two that had sentimental value. Example my 1980, Ric I purchased brand new and was my first real bass and I did every gig with it from 1980 to approx 1997. I will never sell it, my Mike Lull P bass is just the best playing/sounding bass in my collection.

Most of my basses are at my other house, but I'm going there this weekend. I should have a list of what I'm going to part with. I'm going to list them here for a while first, I trust you folks. Thanks for all of your help.

Me too! You mentioned amps. You don't have a Markbass combo that you are looking to unload, do you?

I've been traveling and haven't been home long enough to get these basses up. It's been so long since I sold anything my Photobucket account is gone. What's the preferred method to post pictures here? Thanks!

For hosting images, I recommend https://imgur.com. Free account, so much free space, and you can directly link to images.

So ... no Markbass combos available?

No combo, a couple of MarkBass heads. I don't have a plan yet on amps, selling locally would be easier to deal with due to weight.

I'm having trouble uploading pictures, I tried Flickr but I got a flag saying it was pirated software. Can I use the "upload attachment" when posting here? Turns out I'm not very computer savvy anymore.

Imgur is a tad clunky at times (in my opinion), but give it a try - it works....
R&B Stretch Bass, Walter Woods 1000w Green-Light Stereo Amp, AccuGroove El Whappo and TR112, assorted axes, amps, cabs...

I am not going to be able to resist the King Of Lefthandzia’s charms! That green SR5 just about put me over the edge! I may have to call dibbs on that one!
