A couple of things suggest Chinese fake to me.
Treble pickup surround too flat and cover too square.
Body edge binding continuous behind tailpiece. I think RiC always leave a gap the width of the thru neck wood.
The use of the headstock logo is disturbing, not the usual lookalike logo such as "Rockinbetter".

You can find similar more directly in Aliexpress, although the headstocks are nearly always hidden or blurred in the photo's. Left handed is off the shelf or an option in nearly every case.

I've known about this site for a while now. Yes, these are definitely fake, though they do offer some interesting options you're not gonna find anywhere else, i.e. Rickenfaker double necks and a Billy Sheehan Yamaha. We can debate the ethics of buying/ripping off another brand (not really debatable, it IS unethical!), but here's some of their more unique offerings:

Geddy Lee Double Neck:

For those that salivate over Rick 4005s, there's only the two that Rick made that sold for 5-figures and all of these that sell un-licensed for 3-figures.

Yes, those are all "Fakenbackers", or "Chickenbackers". Aside from the fact that they sound nothing like a real Rick, they can be a really good example of the old saw "You get what you pay for". With the caveat that, given RIC's attitude and eternal vigilance, you might not actually get it at all... However, there's a very good thread on these over on Talk Bass; a step-by-step post by a player who made the one he bought as good as it could be. The finished product still didn't sound quite like a real Rick, but it was a pretty nice bass when he got finished...
And, yes - I've thought about one of those 4005 copies, too. But, I have enough project instruments around here as it is - including 2 Real Rickenbackers... ;)

blablas- I like that thumb rest bar you came up with! I have a 4005 I got a few years back. I was able to custom order the finish and inlays- then I upgraded the electronics w/ Bartolini, replaced the bridge w/a vintage roller bridge, replaced the knobs with Rick knobs, and replaced the pickguard with a proper full sized Rick plexi guard, so that the controls could be placed in the correct Rick position:

We have an awesome group here.... Paulo finds amazing things, and if we need more info on them, chances are Carmine owns at least one, and if not Blablas has probably made one, or modified one :D
In the topsy-turvy world of heavy rock, having a good solid piece of wood in your hand is often useful...

Here is a comparison of the Chinese copy to a real Rick.
