Fender P-bass with J Tele Neck

Post by lsimy »

Here is a project I put together for one of our annual jams. I have not used it since and working on a short scale project so I thought I would put this up to help fund needed parts.

Here are the specs:

- Fender American Standard P-bass body in black gloss
- G&L Split pickup in P position
- G&L MFD humbucker in bridge position
- Passive V-V-T wiring with .1uF capacitor (250k pots)
- BWB pickguard
- AllParts Jazz width satin finish neck with Tele headstock, GraphTech nut
- Hipshot Ultralight tuners
- Hipshot D-tuner
- Fender American Standard chrome bridge with chrome ferrules
- Dunlop StrapLoks

No case with this but will be packed well. Not many hours on this bass. It plays well and is presently strung with Dean Markley NPS strings.

Cool pickup configuration, I'd dig that! That MFD splitcoil sounds HUGE, and most singlecoils in the bridge position can't keep up. This looks great!

Thanks for the kind words !

It is a cool bass indeed. I built it for an annual heavy rock jam and it came out really good. With the next project bass, I'm hoping to go in the medium scale direction as I am getting older and less nimble. While this one is not too heavy, I'm also hoping to go a bit smaller and lighter.

Again great bass. Those pickups did end up matching well with good quality pots and the 0.1uF tone capacitor gets into some serious sub-dub when the split is soloed. A nice quiet bass noise wise as well.

That does look pretty awesome. Sadly, I can't buy any more basses and wouldn't have time for one if I did, but if you've got some recordings of the sound it'd be cool to hear it. The p - MM configuration gives such great tones, Im surprised it's not more common.
