My Walnut P-Bass
My Walnut P-Bass
Hi All,
I am a bit reluctant to list this, but I had thought about selling a few weeks ago. The finish as I got it, was an oil or something. By Something, I mean that it had something on it that made it feel like the counter at a Greasy Spoon Diner....Sticky! It sounded OK, but not really great. I thought that if I had it painted clear, well someone would like it....I still wanted it, but because of the sound, I also didn't. You guys got me sometime back with the thread about Walnut P and J basses......may have been the thread about the Walnut Rics when they came out.
Mike Tobias told me once, that an oiled finish may sound bad on some types of wood, but when a hard finish was applied, the instrument came alive. He was right! After removing the old finish and a Nitro clear added, this guy really shines! Anyway, like a proud new father, I just wanted to share and say, "Thanks for that thread!"
I bought the bass as seen. It has a Warmoth Walnut body, I'm sure the neck too is Warmoth and the decal was already applied.

Gorgeous. I like my tone woods like I like my women: dark, grainy, and with a thick clear coat that keeps them sounding alive well into their later years.
Or something.
Awesome to hear that you were able to liven up the sound with a better finish.

Really beautiful. I love the Fender walnut finish they offered back in the mid-late 70's. Yours looks even better, with a nice wood grain show through.

That's beautiful!!

Re: My Walnut P-Bass
She weighs 10 lbs, 5 oz. Feels lighter when strapped on and balances really nice! The way the fret board ends on the headstock leads me to believe it's a Warmoth, but it must have the carbon fiber stiffing rods as it doesn't weigh as much as my other Warmoth necks. It has the standard 1-11/16" nut, which is also bone.

Beautiful AND healthy... walnut is full of essential omega-3 fatty acids.
