The Fam

Post by tim »

Happy Black Friday! I hope everyone survived all the awkward political conversations with distant relatives yesterday.

Because this will be the high water mark of my collection for a while (or at least that's what I'm telling myself), I thought I'd get a picture of all the ladies together.

Nice new avatar!

The grain on the L2K is odd from a distance, but really cool close up. I actually just finished breaking it down to send it off for a refinish. But don't worry, it's going to be a translucent finish so you can still see the grain 8-)

Tim and Paulo,

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but are either one of you going to see Peter Murphy at The Middle East?
We're going and we got a hotel for after the after party.

I'll be out of town, visiting my dad for his birthday. Sounds like a sweet road trip, though!

I had to look him up on Youtube and wikipedia and never heard any of his music...
But that's something to consider!
Sounds like you got it all planned up so it should be a good time.
I have no plans yet but if I be around I'll be happy to go check it out!

Tim, looking forward to see the progress of the refinish! :)

I might as well keep this one going.

I'm having my L2K Tribby refinished by http://mjtagedfinishes.com in Missouri. I'm getting their cinnamon burst with checking. It will cost roughly what I paid for the bass to begin with, but altogether it will still be less than a used USA model :D

Here is the before:

And here are some pictures they just sent of the clear coat stage, pre checking:

I'm pretty happy with the way it's turning out so far.

I got the body of my L2k back from MJT Guitars this week. The checking is subtle but looks amazing, but unfortunately I couldn't capture it with this camera. I will keep working on it.

The color, though  ....

Next up is a full copper shielding job. Then I have to figure out how to rewire that spaghetti platter of internals from three months ago...

Thanks! But the cheap camera makes it look better than it really is. It'll get the job done, though.

But I managed to take a nice size gouge out of the the bottom edge of the bass while reinstalling the electronics last night. I don't know how I did it. I flipped it over and there it was. Oh well. Half-assed relic :P

I called this my introvert St. Patrick's Day party :D But my wife really is Irish, so I stayed home on kid duty while she went out with friends.

Thanks! I'm trilled with the finish MJT did.

The silly fret decals are for my daughter. They represent the planets. The 12th fret decal says "Sally" for Sally Ride. The strap was a Christmas gift from my dad, but I think it kinda works even if it doesn't keep to the theme.
