Original finish was sunburst which was stripped before I bought it. Someone along the line stripped to Natural. This refin/aging was done by a shop in St. Louis. All other parts are original.
On my 78, the finger rest is in the thumb position, and on this, it's in the finger position. Is this correct for that year? Which one is period correct, this bass, or mine?

On a '78, the correct position of the thumbrest is on the bass side.

Aaaah, very nice. I do like a bass with plenty of history!

I was going for a '58 look.
I was thinking it was installed in older Fender position, although I wasn't thinking quite that far back!

The stock Fender gold anodized pick guards come with the thumb rest holes drilled for that position which is the correct position for 57 thru 59 anodized pick guards. They didn't start moving them to the bass side until 73, I believe.
