Re: My Lefty
I don't know. That was taken right when I got so the other stick for pulling the tone knob for the vintage sound is still on there as well.AzWhoFan wrote:why is it that everyone leaves the MIA stickers on Ric's .... including myself??? LOL
Re: My Lefty

But I did remove the sticker at the push-pull toneknob.

Re: My Lefty
Is that a 4001v63 model with the horseshoe pickup? How does the horseshoe/toaster combo compare to the "newer" high gain button PUPs? I've always been curious.AzWhoFan wrote:while we're at it, here's a couple of pics I took of mine last year ... I took off the sticker last month after having it on there for 5 years ...

Re: My Lefty
Your right, azwhofan, they don't do it justice, but i can imagine how beautiful it must be in person.
Re: My Lefty

Thought this was really cool read this
:
The Legend of The Red Rickenbacker
Madness and demonic possession, the legend goes, comes in the elegant form of a blood red Rickenbacker bass. It was back in the summer of 1969, the Summer of Love, that the Red Rick possessed it’s first soul. Evan McCue, bass player for Fallic Fish was the first victim. Nobody knows where the bass came from, but Evan brought it to a gig at the Troubadour one night and played like he had never played before. But, his bandmates say, he became a different person. Within a few months, he disappeared altogether, never to be seen again. The Red Ric passed through many hands; each owner, in turn, slipped into darkness, madness or worse, possessed by demons nobody can explain. Its terrible power could even be felt onstage by others. Some bands quickly fell apart once The Red Ric appeared, even though audiences would sometimes dance to the point of hysteria. Nobody knows why The Red Ric brings madness, what evil possesses it or where it came fromÉ and officials at the Rickenbacker company flatly deny the very existence of such a bass. But the stories are all there. Year after year, bass players come into possession of a beautiful Red Rickenbacker bass, only to slip away.

Yes, it's a horse shoe.pjmuck wrote:Is that a 4001v63 model with the horseshoe pickup? How does the horseshoe/toaster combo compare to the "newer" high gain button PUPs? I can't directly compare it to the high-gains, either new or old style, because I've only played mine through my rig and a newer model with high gains through a store's rig.
I can tell you i liked my rig ( LMII into Berg HT/EX 112's ) a lot better. It has more depth, better note definition and easier to achieve classic Ric tones - a.k.a. Squire, Macca and Geddy.
The bass I tried in the store had the push-pull option. I was running through either a Shuttle 6.0, some kinda SWR combo, and a Genz-Benz rig (it's been a while so forgive my fuzzy memory). I just couldn't dial in any sounds from any of those rigs that turned my crank.
Both basses were set up with new Rotosounds.
I used to own a 74 (maybe 75?) righty Ric - it was my 2nd bass -that had hi gains. Even tho I played through crappy amps at the time, I can tell you I preferred the pups on the 74 to the new ones!!
Re: My Lefty

Re: My Lefty
Amazing! Back when Ric was first offering those red finishes with black chrome hardware in the 80s I have to say I laughed at them as a silly trend. But I'm eating my giggles now, because they've aged really well and cut an amazing figure on stage these days!
