Lefty Musicman Bongo to be discontinued

Order one now if you want one. If you already have one hold onto it as it will eventually resell for a lot more that is has sold so far.

Now, since EBMM is shuffling their products we should bug them to offer the Classic in lefty or at least get us a left handed 2 band preamp option for the Stingray. I do not like their 3 band preamp.
It seems they are narrowing down their products to the best selling models.

Several other lefties gone too... bummer.

In so many words, Sterling has made it pretty clear in the past that he considers lefty production of any kind as charity... he's all but said flat-out that he hates it, feels like he has to do it and considers it to be a total pain in the ass.

I honestly wouldn't count on any more lefty models added to the roster ever... and WOULD possibly count on even more lefty models being taken away eventually.

F Bass BN5 • ZON Legacy Elite 5 • ZON Sonus Elite 5 Fretless • ZON Sonus BG5 • Fender Custom Shop '64 NOS Jazz • Fender Custom Shop '75 NOS Jazz • Fender ADE Precision • Music Man SR4

My opinion their quality has been sub par since 2004/2005. I purchased a Stingray 5 2005 model and sold my 1995 Ray to fund it. The 95 Ray killed it in every factor. Should have never sold that bass. It just didn't feel and sound like a solid bass like the older ones. This is my opinion of course as everyone has their own opinions on basses and gear.

As far as list of discontinued models, here.........

A funny personal story about the Bongo:

The first time I ever saw one, I guess I would have been around 18. I thought it was the most killer-looking bass I had ever seen (which was extremely few bass designs at that point). I wanted to own one, and hoped I could some day, but of course I had no money then.

Well, imagine how taken aback I was so many years later when I started looking at bass message boards and read so many people are mocking it, saying it looks like a toilet seat and all.

Ha!

Haha. Definitely a toilet seat. Never was a fan of these basses but it sucks to see another lefty choice being eliminated.

While I won't personally miss the toilet seat, I must say that overall EBMM has always given us more options than Fender and must be commended for that.

Sad, the Bongo was the only EBMM available left handed that offered more pickup options than just one humbucker. I wish there were lefty twin-pickup Stingray 5's!
