Post by gravesbass »

$450 SHIPPED in Hard Case as is

--> I feel this is a very fair price

Vintage 70’s Ibanez Jazz Bass Made in Japan - Lawsuit Model

Looking to fund an amp and putting a few things up....

This is one of the lawsuit Fender clones that had a short sale life. Ibanez had to stop production due to it being so close to the Fender Jazz bass. Some say they are better. There are very few of these in left handed produced. The quality was excellent and neck/fretwork is KILLER. The maple neck has the clear coat like the 70’s fender Jazz basses and feels great. Black Blocks and Black Binding. No shrinkage and sharp frets pushing out the binding like some Fender's. The fit and finish is REALLY good.

There are some random finish chips in the body and a few minor dents on the neck but nothing bad. Balance is perfect at about 9lbs (+ a little). I will get actual weight later.

All Original: Pickups, Bridge, Tuners (turn super smooth, no stick), Thumbrest, Pickguard, etc. The only thing not original is the nut and its missing a truss rod cover and 1 strap button (at heel). There are 2 extra strap pin holes. 1 on the lower horn and back of the heel of the body. Not a big deal. Small holes that can easily be filled. Non issue. The original owner had a shop custom make him a brass righty nut for the bass and intoned righty.

The tone is very good and playability is freaking awesome. The neck is dead straight and action is super low and no buzzing. Ibanez did really good fretwork.

For you lefty strung righties out there, its already ready to play. For a lefty, you just need to get a nut made and your golden.

I am starting this one on OFFERS. I just want to make fair and add this money into another project. It will be shipped in a 70's hard case but not a pretty one. Just something to get it there safe. I have been monitoring the prices around and have an idea but lets just do offers on this.

Feel free to PM me with questions and offers.

Hey man, nice bass. Those Japanese could easily play as good or better! I´m not sure there ever was an actual lawsuit from Fender. And what about:

- the pickup-spacing
- the body wood
- the pickup-covers
- the blocks
- detailed shots of those killer frets, finish and paintchips

And for future buyer's understanding: for a straight lefty, the buyer has to get a new nut, new set-up, reposition the strapbutton (and buy the second) and fill up the exposed holes?

I listed from the road. There supposedly was a lawsuit hence Ibanez was forced to stop production of the clones. They were in some instances better than the Fenders. The neck and fretwork... uhh, I would better than the later 70's Fenders I have seen and or owned.

- the pickup-spacing
Not std and not true 70's although the bridge pickup is closer to bridge than 60's spacing... See pic.
- the body wood
Mahogany according to my luthier. they used that back in the 70's but it ages well for tone.
- the pickup-covers
None
- the blocks
Black. Not sure if painted or inlays. Good work tho and not sloppy. Clear coat over entire fingerboard like Fenders.
- detailed shots of those killer frets, finish and paint chips
Thats for PM's. Too many pics. If I have time later, ill get some. This is a feeler to get it out or I might just pull if some other things sell.

--> As far as nut, I have a blank for it. All you need is to have someone or yourself cut the nut to fit and replace the righty. notation and setup is easy. I mainly posted this as is because we have a bunch of lefties playing righty strung here on leftybassist. This would be a dream for them as its ready to go and plays killer already. If I reverse, i'll probably just keep it.

Its a played aged bass but not bad at all for a 70s. Sounds like a Fender. Upgrade the pups and pots and your have a very nice Jazz Bass. Might not even need the upgrade. Some posts on talks describe the stock pickups as good.
Thanks

Thx Dano.... I typo'd that. Was supposed to be Mahogany, not Walnut... Was running out the door.

The nut is tapered (angle). Better to make a new one.
