Tweety

Post by Frenchy-Lefty »

I recently stumbled onto this Warmoth bass at Starving Musician in Santa Clara (like bbl). It is everything I like in a bass, passive Jazz Bass style fiver, great maple neck, super resonant ash body and 34" scale (I am slightly uncomfortable with 35" as I did not eat my veggies when I was a kid) - There are a few things to take care of: two different pickups, one Delano and one Nordstrand, I will eventually get a second Delano JMVC, and the tuners are right handed tuners (wtf!). The yellow finish which is not factory finish, it is somewhat funky but I kind of like it. Besides that I love how it plays and sounds and it convinces me to be more of a five-string player. For obvious reasons, I call it Tweety.
On a side note, I find those Delano JMVC pickups to be exceptional, especially for a passive fiver. They have punch, definition on the B string, no hum yet remain relatively warm and textured. They make your bass sound like the offspring of a Jazz Bass and a Musicman Sterling so they may not please the Jazz Bass purist.

Nice score! Was the price reasonable? And, I appreciate your assessment of the pickups...

This bass was a steal. Despite the mustard look (actually looks quite good in person) it played VERY good and I liked the slight mass neck. Good quality Warmoth bass at a ridiculous price.
