I used to own one. Cool aesthetics but one of the worst sounding basses I've ever played. That "mystery" PUP in the bridge made for a wonderfully plastic "ping" sound. The later models with the actual PUP are much better sounding.

I don't really know the value of these basses, but $3200, and $4999 seems a bit too much..... :?:
R&B Stretch Bass, Walter Woods 1000w Green-Light Stereo Amp, AccuGroove El Whappo and TR112, assorted axes, amps, cabs...

I've never played one but like everything else in life the value is based on supply and demand. They didn't make a whole lot of these in the sixties and probably less have survived in original condition. The very rare lefty in the UK sold for around $2900. a couple months ago. Here's a pic of Rick Danko who famously played a fretless with The Band and coaxed some sweet sounds from it. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=ric ... tedIndex=1

First bass guitar I ever played on was an AEB-1 with the mystery pickup. Plugged into a Peavey MK I with an SP 1 PA speaker, that bass could make a roar in a large church!!!!! I still like them, but my desire to own another is tempered with my preference for old BC Riches these days.
