Modulus Genesis 5 String

Post by jayceofbass »

Howdy Everyone,

I bought this bass from a fellow forum member a year or two ago. I really wanted to give it the good ol' college try to see how I got along with a wider spacing and longer scale. I know a lot of you guys swear by this format. But - as someone whose only 5 string for a kazillion years was a SR5 - I just can't do the stretch. Don't get me wrong. This thing sounds frickin' amazing. It's just my mostly 4 string, rock and roll, girly hands can't deal with it.

Anyway, the tone is truly amazing. The action is great. Neck is a composite/maple hybrid with no dead spots whatsoever and the frets are in decent shape. Bartolini single coil jazz bass pickups with an Aguilar three band boost/cut EQ. It's not a lightweight, probably around 10lbs. It is definitely in "been played" condition. There are a few chips out of the clear coat on a few spots on the fret board and one 5-6mm chip out of the paint on the lower horn. Also, the usual buckle rash etc. All was there when I got the bass. Nothing that affects the playability of the bass at all. The only thing I changed on this bass was the knobs to Hipshot o-ring style. I have a generic hardshell case for this as well.

I'd like to get $1000 for the bass if I can - especially since Modulus ain't gonna be making any more of these - but I'm open to reasonable offers. I would also consider trades on a Stingray 5 or a G&L L series 5'er. Anything with a narrower spacing and 34" scale.

Check out the pics (apologies for my below average pic taking skills):

Sometimes I think, maybe I'm lucky I'm left handed. If I could play any bass I wanted, my collection would REALLY be out of control.

My Carvin LB76 is 34 inch scale and would make a good trade it the idea of a 6 string bass appeals to you!

Nice Carvin you got there Crabby! I have to admit that I have seriously considered a Carvin LB 5-string as a replacement for the Modulus but the six string just ain't my style. It would - unfortunately - just put me back in the "neck's too wide for me" scenario. I'm a four string guy - plus Hipshot D-Tuners on EVERYTHING - at heart and only play a fiver when absolutely called for. As such, your kind and reasonable offer just won't work. Thanks anyway! Hope you find a good home for that beauty somewhere.
