i need a better camera

Post by ricktim83 »

well these are my babies to date:

The first is an 83 pbass i just acquired today. i swapped out the white pickguard for a black one, thanks to matt :D Cant wait to get out and gig this bad boy.

The other 2 are both the "hot rod" p basses. the red(translucent orange) i got from peter "pjmuck". i prefer playing the red one anyways.

Not pictured is the white ray, shes at a resort getting constant rub downs from matt. ill always call her mine tho
Also have a mahogany bass body on order from bernie hefner in a sweet dreamsicle orange color. should be arriving in about 7 weeks or so.

Congratulations on the black '83! Great year too (my year of birth) ;)
I saw it on eBay and had it saved in my favourites. Very pretty bass, and it went at a good price. The black pickguard is exactly what I would have done 8-) . I would have installed black pickup covers too though.

I love the two hotrods as well! There was a very pretty white one on eBay the other day.

Very nice collection. That orange Hot Rod P sandwiches nicely between the two black ones. Reminds me of the Oreo cookies they release around Halloween. :)

It never ceases to humor me how "creative" Fender would get with headstock logo placement on lefties over the years. Your '83 P has the Fender logo after the "precision bass" types, while the other two have them before. You'd think Fender would just go with that layout and leave well enough alone, but I've some Fenders where the logo is all over the place (i.e. tip of the headstock, below G string, below E string, etc).

On a scale from 1-10, how dumb am I for not noticing that?

You know it's a funny story about the 83. I found it on craigslist and was emailing the guy back and forth trying to get some decent pics of it. He was asking 750 for it, which I was totally willing to pay since I have been looking for a bass from the year I was born for some time. After not hearing from him for a couple weeks after he was supposed to be sending me pics, I emailed and asked if he had a chance to take any, he tells me he had to sell it to a local music shop and they were going to sell it online. I guess he was hard up for cash. That same day it popped up on the bay. But I wound up getting it 75 bucks cheaper so I can't really complain. Who knows how much that guy got reamed for by that store though...

A 7.5 I'd say.

Not to mention the Fender lefties that just have the "Fender" logo w/o model name.

Total hijack: I was born in 1956. What are the chances of me finding a lefty P bass from that year?????

Sorry, I just couldn't resist.
