Re: Peerless Jack Casady signature bass
This is Jerry from Jerry's Lefty Guitars. I've just been told by Peerless that I can order directly from them again (the new distribution center has has gone out of business). I'm ordering at least 24 guitars and basses in the next couple of weeks. The Jack Casady Bass is going to be in that order. I only have to order 4 of any one model, and I plan to order at least 4 of the these basses, possibly 6 or more if there is enough interest. I don't have confirmed pricing because of shipping and import duties, but I believe I can have these for less than $1000, with the original hard case, shipped anywhere in the US.
Peerless made these exact basses for Epiphone before Epiphone built their own factory in China in 2002. They also built the Casino, Joe Pass, and Sheraton. They continue to make guitars for Gretsch and Ibanez. I'll also be getting lefty Songbirds (Casino's) and other models.

Hey Jerry! Awesome to have you pop in.
What finishes will be available for the Jack Casady? I assume at least gold and black, no?

Black and Gold are the available colors, but I was going to only order the gold right now. I don't need to tell you about the general lefty aversion to black instruments.

I'd be interested in black or gold. Played a righty Epi JC and it was very well made and had good semi-solid Gibson like tone.
Re: Peerless Jack Casady signature bass
Can black be special ordered with the gold too, or would you have to order 4 in black?

Re: Peerless Jack Casady signature bass
Saw Hot Tuna last night in Syracuse- Jack was playing the Epi bass. Full and thumpy most of the time, but it could growl when he pushed it. He took four or five solos. A great night of acoustic music.
Re: Peerless Jack Casady signature bass
Almost a year since the last post in this thread, did anyone get one of the gold top basses Jerry ordered?

Don't know if Jerry ever ordered (or got them). Last couple of times I've been on his site he doesn't even have any basses. Anybody know what's up?andrew wrote:Almost a year since the last post in this thread, did anyone get one of the gold top basses Jerry ordered?

Re: Peerless Jack Casady signature bass
I checked with Jerry recently- he never ordered any from Peerless. I also checked with Southpaw since they are listed as a Peerless dealer, they said it's very difficult to deal with Peerless. So all dead ends so far. I'm thinking I'm going to have to get a righty and "set to work upon it".
I'll be seeing Hot Tuna again in December, I'll check with Jack...

Re: Peerless Jack Casady signature bass
I got no info from Jerry when I inquired and the same answer from Jim at Southpaw as OLB got. I emailed a couple other Peerless dealers and got no response from most, but one replied that Peerless discontinued the bass in lefty (at least in black) and they'd look to see if there were any left in stock in the USA. And no more follow up response from there.
I also messaged Peerless directly and got no response. It's a shame because they seem to make a cool product but their communication is abysmal with both customers and dealers alike.
Lets try directly one more time...

Re: Peerless Jack Casady signature bass
OK, since we don't seem to be getting anywhere with Gibson, Epiphone, Peerless, or any of the dealers, I went out and got a project JC bass. It was on ebay, had a few minor issues so it went for reasonable. It's a 2001- made in the Peerless factory. One of the previous owners gave it a "blackification"- removed the pickguard and switch surround, changed the knobs. I plan on reversing as much of that as possible.
I'm planning on leftifying it. Make a new bone nut, reset the bridge saddles, move the controls over to the proper side, fill the old holes and do some minor refinishing. StewMac order is on the way. It sounds pretty nice as is, but I need it flipped.
I'll keep you apprised as I progress. Wish me luck...

OK, off and running- here we go:
I made a new (lefty) bone nut, reversed the saddles. Controls out, holes drilled, old holes plugged with tapered wood plugs, skim coat of Bondo over the plugs.

Re: Peerless Jack Casady signature bass
As close as I'm going to get. Some finishing left to do on the old holes but they're plugged with maple plugs, filled and a quick coat of laquer. Have to wait for warm weather to finish that, but it's playable. I made a bone nut, drilled the new holes and rewired, flipped the pickup (it appears on the bottom to be asymetrical), WD made me a lefty pickguard, reset the saddles for lefty. I have the new figerboard side dot markers but they're not in yet. Plays just fine. Ta Da!
