It's Ok to Point & Laugh, I will Understand.

Post by Matt R. »

So I have a Wishbass coming. I owned one before and actually liked it. Got the hankering to get this single cut deal here and Wish just sent me the pic last night. I'm gonna make this one a project, planing and radiusing the fingerboard and maybe do an oil finish or something. I love the looks, except for the funny off centered wood striping on the body. Haha. Oh well. That's a Wishbass for ya.
It's a walnut body and the fingerboard is wenge.

Of course when I get it I'll post better pix, since it appears this was taken by someone in the throes of delirium tremens.

The off-centered stripe would be cool (to me) if it were off-center just a little bit more. As it is now, it looks kinda like they tried to center it but missed.

It looks like a fun(ky) bass, though! It should be a lot of fun.

Would like to hear and audio sample once you've got it dialed in the way you want....

Here it is: Image

It'll be a project for sure. Fingerboard is unplayable. Gonna do a 10" radius with the ol' sanding block. Scallops!

"Yngwie Malmsteen likes this".

Here's the nut, with good string spacing, but uh...pencil.

I knew what I was signing up for, but it was a little worse than expected. But I am looking forward to the project. I like the looks of the bass. We shall see. :geek:

Someone got a little heavy-handed with the front of the belt sander! I've always admired this guy for going not only outside the design box, but trying to make inexpensive basses as well. I'm one of those guys (like most of us here!) that love taking "fixer-uppers", whether its a car, house, swap meet find, or a bass guitar that needs some TLC, and nurtures/sands/planes it either back to it's former glory, or, realizes what the builder had in mind, but not quite in his hands....

Looking forward to the completed project Matt!

The fingerboard now has a discernible grain and shape. And thanks to the ol' radius block, an actual 10" radius. Oh, and check out the misplaced control cavity rout. With the control cover on, I thought it was a line from a knot in the wood. Sheesh. Brilliant powers of observation, Ross.
