Fender Precision '57 RI

Post by sblueplanet »

This is my Fender P bass. Its a '57 reissue CIJ and I added the gold anodised pickguard and chrome covers. Its also been fitted with a Kent Armstrong pickup and the tonal range is fantastic, from muddy lows to sparkling highs.

That there is one of my dream basses. :)

Where did you find the anodized pickguard? Is it a true lefty or a flipped righty?

The pickguard is a Fender righty, flipped over. This is possible as the guard is flat-edged not bevelled. Some drilling required on reverse side required to accept the screw heads. The finish is not as good as normal side but acceptable and somewhat relic'd.
I have another guard waiting for a similar conversion if I can find a white/maple configuration.

CIJs are usually beautiful to look at anyway but your upgrade is fantastic! Where's Duck Dunn?

Glad you still like it :)
I really like the look of it with the gold anadized pickguard and the covers. Very pretty!
I loved the neck on this bass. I originally bought it just for the neck, for a Telecaster Bass project with two wide range humbuckers, but I never got round to it. I'm glad someone appreciates it in one piece ;)

Hi Jeroen,
Bass plays and sounds great so thanks for that.
I felt the authentic look was important to attempt.
Can you remember what model of Kent Armstrong pickup is in the bass?

By the way, your bass avatar makes me very envious.

Hi Steve,

I'm sorry, I wouldn't know what Kent Armstrong is in there. I got the bass with that pickup already in it, and all the previous owner told me was that it was a Kent Armstrong. I've never taken it out to see if there were any markings on the bottom.

Thanks for the comment on my avatar. I love my Musicians, they're amazing basses :)
