My left-handed (upright) double bass

Post by Frits »

Here's me after a concert enjoying a nice Belgian brown (trappiste) beer. I play in a 15-piece chamber music ensemble but my favourite quartet is a manouche/musette setting. Bass is a grand V. Panormo copy (more or less) with a nicely flamed maple (round) back and violin corners. String length is 107 cm. Bass is quite large in proportions but this makes for a very profound focused tone, ideal for acoustic jazz. Build project by a Belgian luthier started back in 1999 and ended in 2002. Soooo nice to closely monitor each step during manufacturing. Quite an adventure too!!! Enjoy!

Beautiful. I have a lowly Shen ply bass. Welcome to the board. :)

Great photo! Beautiful bass. But given the background history on it, couldn't you find another foot rest somewhere? ;)

No prob - won't hurt the bass at all. Built sturdy enough! Any more lefty double bassists out there? As for professional lefty double bassists, I know at least 2: Joris Teepe and Chris Jennings, but there are more!
