Maybe you can answer a question for me. I've often wondered how the Rick horseshoe/toaster PUPs differ tonally from the button PUPs. Can you elaborate?

Only 1000 CS basses were produced, of those only 3 were lefties. I bought it new in '92, for $999.

I know I prefer having multiple "cheap" instruments that vary tonally and playability-wise, rather than a single "nice" instrument.

That Davison LP bass is sweet as hell. I been lookin at them on the bay, how does it sound? I'm going thru another supersuckers fase and I'm convinced I need one. God forbid Gibson or Epiphone get on the ball and make some lefties. But seriously, let me know how that davison plays.

I HAD to have a lefty with an f-hole, I've got a few righty hollowbodies, and a lefty Hofner, but no lefty with f-hole. So, I had a few extra $$ and got the Davison. I'd read a few negative reviews but I took a shot.
Build quality reminds me of the Epi Viola bass I had before I got the Hofner, not bad at all. 32" scale so it's kind of a cross between a short-scale and a long. The pickups are "full-range", meaning they have decent low-end(NOT mudbucker low-end but certainly good) and plenty of treble. Basically it's a modern-sounding bass if strung with rounds. First thing I did was put Roto black nylons on it, then it sounded "old-school". Second, I replaced the chrome P-bass knobs with Les Paul knobs. Looks better.
It's got a good bridge and lousy tuners, they function fine but are not smooth in operation. I have the action nice and low with no fret buzz. Bass balances well on a strap. Biggest negative is the p/u switch. Mine arrived with a broken switch knob. The switch functioned just fine tho'. A while back I bought the exact same switch off ebay, swapped it out, and on the first flick of the switch the knob cracked and fell off. So, I use it w/o the knob, no prob. I'm thinking of having a different pickguard made, maybe a clear tort like the old Gibson archtops.
I use this bass for our "British Invasion" set(Zombies,Animals,Yardbirds,etc.) and usually use both pickups with both tones full up. Some songs I roll the tones off, and on some I just use the neck p/u with the tone rolled off. The "gigbag" it comes with is more of a "gigsack" for lack of a better word, it has zero padding, so don't let the free gigbag influence your buying decision.
The bass is worth the asking price. I saw last week that they have the same lefty bass in an orange-y finish, Hmm...

That Davison LP bass is a real looker. Though it probably isn't worth it given the cost of the bass, some chrome humbuckers would be the icing on the cake to it's vintage look.

If you don't mind me asking, did you pay the full retail as it seems to be only available at the 699 advertised price. I really want one of those... but I'd like to find it for less. If I buy it , i'll probably put a fender neck on it. so my next question?
Are the necks the same size as fender?

I like the SXs, they're inexpensive but not "cheap". I like that Jag too. Why would you change out the neck? Have you tried one? My experience with SX necks is they are wider at the body end than a Fender.

I'm curious as how to obtain one at the Artist price...I'm also a licensed guitar and bass repairman in Reno, NV. and of course also a lefty pro bassist goin' on 40 years now...yeah, I'm old. I think I want one as my next purchase after my first generation P-bass builder gets done. Or, maybe first! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Dave.
