Hey Fellow Lefties.
My main bass is a G&L JB2. I purchased an additional one as a backup then after a couple of years realized I never use it. Any suggestions for pickup changes to have something different. Maybe if I get a totally different sound, I will play it more. Pref. something that fits stock. I do not want to hack the body since it is in mint condition.

Re: G&L JB2 pickup change
I'm not familiar with the JB2, but I wouldn't change a thing on my L2000. Do you really need to replace them? Don't like the sound?Assumer wrote:Hey Fellow Lefties.

EDIT: I looked at one on line ....I dunno.. EMG's? Batolinis?

Re: G&L JB2 pickup change
It seems like Nordstrands are loved by all these days, maybe give a set of Nordys a try.
Email or PM Rodent here, he can give you lots of good pickup advice and help you find a new sound.

Re: G&L JB2 pickup change
I'm guessing the JB2 takes standard-size J pickups.
I'm very familiar with stock Fender pickups, Japanese Fender, Lollar, Duncan Antiquity IIs, Bartolini Classics, Nordstrand NJ4s, and Dimarzio Js.
The Dimarzio Js are by far my favorites. They sound huge. Lots of mids and bass, not sparkly, but not dull either, hum-free, thick, burpy, loud. . . I just love them. I just put them in my '82 Jazz, and have had them in several other basses. The original pickups were microphonic, so I tried both Lollars and Norstrads, but the vintage 7.25" radius didn't let me get a balanced volume between strings, so I needed something with staggered pole pieces, or adjustable pole pieces.
The main gain is that you get an amazing sound from the pickups soloed. The bridge pickup by itself is extra burpy but still has plenty of bass, and the neck pickup solo has more mids and bite than a single-coil Jazz-bass neck pickup.
Although, a Jazz bass is a Jazz bass, so even though the Dimarzio Js will change the character of the bass, I'd still be a Jazz bass. But, at $100, it might be well worth the try.

Re: G&L JB2 pickup change
Well, I solved the problem. I went back to the shop I purchased the second JB2 from and used their 80% of original value on trade ins. I have done this before and they actually honor this. (a given the guitar is not trashed). I traded for a lefty G&L L2000 with the skinny jazz neck. Should be in Friday. Cost me $300. So now I have my fav JB2 and soon a new L2000
Re: G&L JB2 pickup change
Well, UPS decided to deliver my L2000 to Jack's Music in NJ not Jack's Music in AR. UPS has a rule, if it sat for more then 2 days, it must be returned to the shipper and checked for damage. So back to CA then to AR. (hopefully)
